AEM EMS or MOTEC?
ok well i was adding everything up and my AEM EMS is going to cost about the same as MOTEC M4 with the new harness. now which system should i run?
advantage of running a AEM EMS is i guess its friendly user, but i dont have a local tuner.
advantage of running a MOTEC is its proven to work and that its local to me. Motec east is up the road in Mooresville to me.
any help?

I am in exactly the same boat right now, except instead of MOTEC it is an FJO 341B (http://www.fjoracing.com); a fairly similar system.
One of the advantages I've heard from a standalone when you compare it to the EMS is that it'll often take a lot more modification to the EMS to see the responce you are looking for.
Example, The car was running 5% lean in a certain spot; and the 341 corrected it with a 3% enrichment whereas it took 17% enrichment to notice a difference on the EMS.
One of the big things for me though is that the EMS is like half the price as the FJO; and the FJO is a lot cheaper than the MOTEC. Why is your EMS so expensive?
What I am looking at doing is buying a 93 Integra GsR harness (for my 90 crx LsVtec) buying an OBD-1 distributor, vx o2 sensor and controller and an EMS system or FJO 341B, getting someone to custom fab a wiring harness, with a vx o2 sensor and controller.
Price wise the EMS will be almost $1000 cheaper, and has way more internet support, but will not be as powerful as a true standalone and the true standalone also has the local support (the FJO is fabbed in Winnipeg).
I'm leaning toward the EMS for the simple fact that it is like 1/2 the cost (the fact that I work at an Acura dealership sure helps with a lot of the OEM parts) and I can get an EMS for jobber pricing as well.
I havn't made a decision yet; my machine shop wants me to go with the FJO because he said it responds better.

Hey Evil... First off, how did the AEM turn out to be so expensive? And to answer your question MOTEC MOTEC MOTEC if the price is right. Oh BTW- Orin can tune either
and if your tuner is comfortable with both?
Has anyone else noticed that the EMS is slow to respond to changes or would you say the EMS is just as powerful as a full standalone.
I can't think of anything that I couldn't get an EMS to do.
It'll run in closed loop under 75% throttle right?

I never noticed that it is slow to changes.. Also the EMS is a full standalone system, It just uses factory sensors..

the only reason it costing so much is because im getting the AEM EMS, WB, UGO, DIS, 5bar.
the motec comes with a new harness and everything i think for about the same price.
Plus MOTEC EAST is right by me. Its in mooresville, nc right by my school so............
I still have to research all the info about it.

Are you going to tune your car yourself or take it to a tuner..
Also does the Motec system come with all that stuff or is that added options..

Unless I am seriously mistaken I could get you everything you listed for the AEM system for close to the base price of JUST a Motec ECU without any of the options you listed. Motec systems are not all-inclusive. Here is a pricing breakdown from PHR for motec equipment. Unless you have a serious hookup on Motec, it just isn't in the same price range as the AEM EMS. Motec makes world class engine management, but fwiw I have been using the AEM system for several years and I am very pleased with it. I don't see a need to pay any more for engine management for 99% of the applications out there.
I'm not really sure how you came up with the pricing either being about the same. Here is a price breakdown.
AEM EMS = $2008.91
AEM EMS with built in UEGO = $2537.50 (If you use this one you don't need the Single Channel UEGO)
CDI = $412.50
Single Channel UEGO = $481.25
5 Bar Map Sensor = $194.47
Total = $3097.13 (Now I know you can find it for a lot cheaper this is just there list)
M4 Honda =2720.39
Advanced Tuning Features, on-board data logging = $452.53
6 Wide Range Lambda Option = $812.24
5 Bar Map Sensor = $223.40
BOSCH LSM-11 Sensor = 329.00
Motec Four Channel CDI Ignition = $1104.91
Total = $5642.47
