Default Symptoms to turbo gone bad?

Trying to figure out if my turbo is toasted. Wondering what are some of the symtoms?? Any help would be much appreciated. Thx!

(It's a T04E 50 trim w/.60 A/R compressor. T3 turbine .48 A/R with a stage 3 wheel)

In my case, oil was coming out of the inlet on the compressor side. ..

If you feel the turbo is damaged, it would help if you told us some symptoms that you're experiencing. Or check online for other turbo "problems". No one can diagnose problems w/o symptoms..

It feels like its spooling much later (starts spooling at 3/35k) then what it was before... at first I thought it was charge pipe, but I check over and over again and couldn't see any pipe lose (all Tbolts)... The only thing I haven't really throughly checked is the couplers if they have a ripe or not, I only feel around all of them and seem ok... I only have my turbo for 3 weeks so everythings pretty new...

I am not burning any oil, and the wheel seem to turn freely...

If there's a problem, it's probably a leak somewhere, either exhaust or intake. Hmm. Probably easiest to find on a dyno. If your turbo is spinning and not leaking it's probably still just dandy.

It could definitely be tuning or something along those lines. Do you have a wideband O2 sensor? What about a boost gauge? When did you expect it to spool, 3000-3500 sounds pretty good.

Tuning technically would not cause the turbo damage in any way.

If you have a pre-turbine exhaust leak it will cause the turbo to not build boost as quickly or cause the turbo to work harder to build and maintain boost. I would tighten everything down first, and then check all the connections.

3000rpm is pretty decent for your turbo.

Well he probably doesn't have turbo damage. I agree with that. I meant that a bad tune could cause it to feel slow.

but you could damage the turbo with tuning, just run a little lean with too much ignition retard and you could burn that sucker up with high EGT's

But running rich, with alot of igniton retard wouldn't burn it up right?

Probably not. EGT measurements would be the best way to figure out.
