Default Help me diagnost this t3/t04e turbo? W/ pics. Thanks

Hello I recently picked up a t3/t04e .57 trim turbo from a local guy. He bought the turbo about 1 year ago ( showed me reciept) and told me he only ran it on his car for 9 months. He ran this turbo w/ just a basemap so im sure it was pretty rich running. He also told me he never went over 9 psi. Well when I met up with him to see and buy the turbo I noticed there was some oil residue inside the exhaust housing in the blades. No oil anywhere else on the turbo. He told me though it never smoked and the seals where perfect. He guranteed me they where but im still kind of iffy. Why would there be oil on the turbine if the seals where good. Tell me if this is normal. Here are some pics. I ended up buying the turbo for $300 he told me if there was anything wrong with it he wold have no problem refunding my money. Do yall think this turbo's seals are ok? Thanks for the input.

oh yeah he showed me the downpipe and there was no oil in it what so ever, also all his intercooler piping had no oil in it. I really dont think the guys trying to hide anything, but would like anyones opinion to why the oil would be like that in the exhaust housing? Ive seen people selling turbos for near full price and have seen oil in the sehaust housing just like this and people bought them right away. Someone make me stop worrying. haha

really??? bad ***, reeason I was worried was because my other turbos never had oil in them like this. I thought if there was oil in it for sure the seals where leaking. What would be possibilities for oil like this to be in it? Thanks guys.

if the previous engine it was on had blown ringalnds or valve seals then oil would get into the turbo on the exhuast side like pictured.

If it does leak when you put it on, try running a smaller size feed, if that still doesnt work then she needs a rebuild i reckon.

But it looks fine to me as well

Check that thread out.. that was a long time ago when i first purchased my turbo from another h-t member....

i was shocked on the amount of oil residue left in the turbine... but i've been running that turbo for about a year now and no probelms with oil or seals yet!

The only thing you can really do is try it and see if it doesnt leak... but most likely that is just normal looking oil i would say (comparing to my case)

Thanks for the replys guys, I now have faith that this turbo is going to work ok. I just didnt want to fab everything up and then by chance have to maybe redo all the flanges and placements. I will have this turbo on in about 3 weeks. I will let everyone know how it turns out.

yeah send the guy his money back. so you're saying somehow through shipping the turbo magically became messed up(seals or something) that caused it to leak oil. weak excuse.

Actually, maybe your right. Look at the way YOU packed it up? There wasnt any news paper or any padding in it. If you wanna go by that, maybe it is your fault.

my paypal is jamespearl@email.com

Thanks.

I also like how our buddy Nicholas Chumchal Changed his name to Bobby and uses a different email address instead of his "fastcivicboy@hotmail.com" name.

Looks like someone got busted and is trying to make a new name for himself?

i was the one who put this turbo on pearls car.... i have done many turbo installs. when we put the turbo on it was open turbo (no downpipe) just at idle it was smoking blue as the sky. i was the one who put my palm where the exhaust comes out the turbo to find my palm soaking wet in oil. pay the ******* kid the 150$ you owe him for selling him a blown turbo you piece of ****. you and i both know it was blown. so stop bullshitting. eventhough you did package it like **** thats not the reason its blown. the reason its blown is because you blew it, took it off your car and still wanted to make some money and now your trying to lie and blame it on shipping. excuse my french but i ******* hate people like you. go to hell. poor james goes to school and barely makes any money and you totally fucked him by selling him a blown turbo. BAN him if he doesnt pay james pearl.
