please check out my ignition timing alignment
i have a timing gun w/ adjustable degrees ***.....and when i checked on my ignition timing, this is all i see:
i only see a red and a white line on the pulley...

shouldn't there be more colored marks on the pulley? does my timing look right to you? i'm confused...which colored marks on the pulley are you suppose to be looking at?

The white mark is TDC. And the red mark is 16 deg before TDC.
Make sure to jump your service connector while checking your timing. (the blue plug you use to check ecu codes) And be sure your engine is idling where it's supposed to with no load.

The fuel/timing maps on the ecu alter when the spark is delivered. If you jumper the ecu, it won't be altering the spark (the gun is reading) while you are mechanically changing the actual timing.

i jumped my service connector, turn the car on, let it warm up until the rpm reaches around 800, and did the ignition timing.
am i suppose to align the WHITE mark to the pointer?

I see now. Maybe that's the reason I can't get my timing within spec after I changed my timing belt. Damn, that must be the issue. My timing is off, probably by a few degrees and with 87 octane, I ping.

Indeed. Let me do this while I'm setting my timing to spec. I didn't know I had to do this nor have I ever seen a mechanic do this aswell.

Red mark. It indicates 16 deg BTDC.
