16deg on timing gun when OBTC is lined up with triangle? Is this right? Searched
Checked timing, just trying to clarify if OBTC is at 16 degrees on timing gun when OBTC (white mark) is lined up with the traingle. And when timing light is at 0 degrees the center mark (16BTC) lines up with the triangle. I believe this is the correct timing, or is it off.
I'm just trying to find out if at 16 degrees on the timing light if OBTC is supposed to line up with the triangle or is 16BTC supposed to line up with the triangle mark.
Thanks.

With the service connector jumped and the warm engine idling to spec, the pointer should align with the RED mark (middle in group of three) not the lone WHITE TDC1 mark.

Or should it align with the red mark when timing gun shows 0 Degrees?
Thanks

The White mark is 0 degrees. This mark is used only for setting the mechanical timing. Use the Red mark for setting the ignition timing.

I understand that the difference between ignition and mechanical.
When I am looking at my timing light, the timing light says 16 degrees at so many RPMS, and the white mark lines up with the triangle tab. Thats where my timing is at now
What I am asking is on my timing light, when it says 16 degrees at so many RPMS, is the white mark supposed to line up or the red. Right now on my timing light it shows 16 degrees and the white mark lines up with the triangle tab.
If I change my timing light to 0 degrees at so many RPMS the red mark lines up with the triangle tab.
I just don't know which one is supposed to line up when my timing light says 16 degrees.

Both readings are telling you the same thing. Your ignition timing is set to spec. You would typically check the ignition timing with the gun set at 0-degrees.

Yeah all this depended on wether the gun was adjustable or not. There are timing guns that have no adjuster there for they are 0*. So you line up with red mark. If you set the gun at 16* youll see the white mark. Both are the same thing just a matter of which gun u have.
