like the title says... I have a 91 Rs with 121k on it... It's on it's second trans, and now the shifter has become very very sloppy (moves a lot from left to right without accoplishing anything)... my question is... can I just get a short shifter for it... or is the problem in the trans itself... I'm sure somebody has had this problem... so a little help is appreciated...

Sounds like something associated the shifter. Try jacking up the car and taking a gander around the shifter from underneath. I believe there is a rubber sleeve/gasket the shifter sits in, check around that area and tug around a bit. Also look to see if the bolt holding the shifter in place is tight. It may also be wise to check the shift linkage.

Tug'n around should give you a good idea where its loose.
