Default Give me some input, planning my engine.

Now that i have steady income, i need some opinions on which route to take. I am highly biased to all motor. mainly, i find turboing complex and worrisome but definitely not out of the question. I already have a b16a. I would like to run 13.5 or lower (have the potential to) and spend around 5-6 grand (motor wise). 25mpg also. I am a fan of economy. here's some of my ideas:
Built ls/vtec by IB
built B16, stock displacement (maybe with nitrous) by me
built b16, bored 86 mm. by GE and me
b16 built for turbo, pretty much reinforced not upgraded. by me
b20vtec, built. by IB
emphasis on reliability. and all of these would be run on fully tuned hondata.
This would be for a 91 pewter gray metallic civic hatch dx. full interior. street tires.
thanks for your opinions. also can anyone recommend a frugal digital camera to keep you guys entertained when i do choose.

anything you get from Jeff @ IB will make you happy

personally i would say big bore/sleeved B16A turbo with ceramic coated pistons...
send your current motor to jeff and get it rebuilt for use with his (or a similar like the http://www.full-race.com set up) turbo kit .. and u will break 300hp easily ..

how much money are you trying to spend?
it can all add up to 10+ G's pretty quick when u "want to do it right" .. especially for something like a 2.0 LS/CRVTEC or 2.0 GSR motor ...

what is your real goal ? daily drive a 11s car ?

u can also just throw a turbo on the b16a u already have .. and if its obd-0.. use turboedit (free) or zdyne ($$) w/ a wideband o2 + egt to tune it on a dyno ... if u have obd1 then great .. use hondata .. it is good..... this is probably the most realistic option ... close-to-stock b16a with a turbo @ 6psi or so ... u can add water injection .. thicker head gasket ... block guard ... for some extra safety and the ability to run more boost safely ... most important thing is engine management ...

or for the next step up from that u could just do the bottom end on your b16a and turbo it .....

turbo makes thing a little more complicated ... but to go all motor and be able to run with turbos (while still retaining some reliability) will cost $$$

if you are now really rich, just talk to jeff at IB and ask for a 2.0 GSR turbo

well if you just want a 13.5, a set of bigger cams, bigger than type r cams and type r pistons, type r intake mani in a b16 on slicks of coursed a tuned hondata should get you 13.5s no problem

but then again a stock b16 with a turbo kit runnin 8psi on slicks should get you into the high 12s or low 13s

Build a poorman's Type R
You'll run that 13.5 or better.
With your budget if done right it will be reliable.

if you wanna run street tires, your gonna have to get up to around 200whp.
if you build the ls vtec right it should get you to 200whp if not more.

here try this...

b16 block, b17 crank, bored/sleeved to 85mm, 11.1:1 compression, rods, some bout it cams and valvetrain, and hondata... they do make them for a pr3/pwo ecus... i think

I would do.. b18c1 block, sleeved/bored to 2.0L. b16 head, P&P, 3-angle valve job, skunk2 valve train, ferra 1mm oversized valves. ARP hardware, ITR oil pump, C&R delsolvtec rad, front mount oil cooler. ITR trans w/ LSD, *hydro to cable mount kit if going into a 4g*. DC 4-1 header, AEM shortram intake, skunk2 intake manifold, Hondata pr3/pw0 ecu, 450cc injectors, walbro 255 intake pump. hasport mounts. that should be a fun motor

From what I've read on H-T it's better to do an OBD0 -> OBD1 conversion and get a P28/P30 with Uberdata/Hondata rather than use Hondata with the PR3/PW0. The OBD0 has too many limited features compared to OBD1.

This is what I'm planning to do with my B16A1 with PW0.

yeah, i now decided i'm going obd-1. the whole header, plus more hondata features, and overall advantages changed my mind.

I know the peak numbers are not as impressive, but what about a SC? Could start by just bolting it on, running 8-9 psi. I would think that would get you really close to your desired strip times and make sure you could drive dailey without issue. To me it just seems like an effective use of resources, $$$.

yeah, that is smart, but i think there many issues with supercharger in a crx/civic, and i have some kind of all motor fetish, but i agree that's a good setup.
