Which to build?
I have a 2000 Civic SI, and I was wondering what you all thought about my build. i wanna build around 350 to 400whp, on built motor and FI. my B16 right now has about 75k miles, so my question is this....should i build the b16 i have or get another b16 to build or get a b18 and build and have the my original b16 as a back up? i have looked thru this site and the FAQ's and i know b18 motor are much more expensive but i figure since most change to gsr parts anyway it would be a smart move, but i dont know. i know the mileage of the motor doesnt matter if u rebuild it completely which i am going to do. but i am just lookin for the tips and some info and what direction i should go my b16 or get a b18. the extra motor would be nice incase my built one goes down. but all the info you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
D SPORT mag has a great b16 turbo car for the street class(issue 35, 36. & 37) check out boostfed.net. terry's a great guy.
he can help you in any way.check out some of his posted threads.

b16 blocks are a dime a dozen and you won't have a problem making 400 whp on a built motor.
Since both would be built and have no problems achieving 400whp, the only real advantage of the b18 block would be spool time/powerband.
Balance that against how much you're willing to pay

everybody always say b18 for displacement, but i say if you build your b16 that you already have you can build the backup b16 and have no trouble with having to retune your computer if anything happens to the first one. plus everything switches over no question for example the intake manifold on b16 vs gsr dont work. you just dont run into issues of having spend more and more money to make your set up work plus 600 hp allows you room to grow. torque will be you main concern between b16 vs b18 if dragracing. happy building
well what is my best option for a street and drag car? i mean this civic wont be daily driven but it will be driven on streets more than a strictly drag car. more torque would be nice cause it is a honda and torque is one of a honda motors downfalls. the money option aint really a option with me, cause this car will be parked for a long time until i get the motor built the way i want and how ever long it takes i am willing to take. so would u all go with a b18 or b16? my goal is between 350 and 400 for a nice street/drag car. thanks

....well you could get a b18c block for pretty cheap and build it up for boost. Then when you are ready swap your b16 head on it and you have yourself a nice little longblock.
The b16 head will make a bit more power than the GSR head as well.....and you can free up some HP by switching to GSR or ITR cams

I was in the same position as you. I ended up buying a GSR and will soon be switching over the block and cams with my B16 head. This way if anything happens to the motor I will have a back up (gsr head on b16 block) Bottom end is built, don't really know my HP goals though haha.
yea, i dont know if i wanna go with the poor mans type r with the gsr motor with b16a head. i mean i could but i dont want the cheapest way there i just want the best way to approach this with the motor. cause i am fully building the motor, i say once i am finished it will be built for more than 400 but i only want 400 out of it. so some say b18a b18c with b16a head, b18c......what is the best not cheapest way? thanks
If you are boosting and rebuilding the motor then there's no advantage to the ITR motor.
Just get a GSR motor (b18c), get it sleeved, swap in some forged internals, swap on your b16 head with some ITR cams and boost away.

i never wanted a ITR motor i want a gsr motor, but i wasn't going with ITR cams i was just goin to keep the GSR cams and build the hell out of the motor. but why should i switch over my b16 head?
