Coilovers on stock shocks??
K so I just got a 97 Civic ex coupe. I was gonna buy some Ground Control Coilovers. My question is do I need to buy shocks at the same time as the coil overs?? Or can I get the new shocks later on?? Sorry I"m a newbie and still learning the basics. Thanks for your help!
Well first off, ground control shouldnt be considered a coilover, but adjustable springs
. Depending on how low your ride will be will determine if you need aftermarket shocks, but imo I would do it all right the first time

I've riden in a 90 integra lowered moderately with GC coilovers or "adjustable springs"
and stock shocks. It rides fine. Just dont dump your car on stock shocks.
If you cant afford the shocks at the same time, you should be okay as long as you dont lower it too much. However, its a real hassle having to take the shocks/coilovers out again to swap out the shocks. It's up to you, but I would rather do it all at once just to save work.

So lets say that you do drop the car about 3" or in a 96 teg on 16" rims a drop till the fender is right on the tire, on stock shocks it rides pretty decently but would you guys recommend to go with KYB r2 or AGX's? I plan on doing autocross in the future. Thank you
yeah, as sayd above you'll be fine for the time being, just dont be a lowrider.
have mine lowered almost 2 inches on stock schocks and it rides fine

I went with AGX on the front and GR-2 in the rear, you'll get a better spring rate setup. Also, don't forget to get a good front & rear camber kit, or you'll slope the tires.
Good luck,
Good luck,
you'll be fine for a little while on the stock shocks. like everyone else has said, lower the car just enough, not too much. then, just save up for some good aftermarket ones.
