Lowering springs or coilovers on stock shocks
I've asked this question before but never gotten a real answer. I would like some replies from people who have lowered on stock shocks before.
How long before they blew?
Did the ride quality suck?
Are springs better or coilovers for this application?
I'm considering doing this until I can afford KYB AGX, but I'm worried that it wont last long enough until I can afford new shocks.
TIA!!
BTW: People who say "do it once, do it right" or "thats rice " can get the **** out, because I'm guessing you dont know what its like to try to have fun on minimum wage

You should just wait and do it all at once. Kill 2 birds with 1 stone.
I have neuspeed sports w/ stock shocks on my civic and on my integra, I have ground controls w/ agx shocks. Big difference between the 2. Well, the cars are different too but I like the overall firmness and ride of the ground controls w/ agx shocks.
I suppose if I had agx shocks along with the neuspeeds, it might be a different case. But to me, stock shocks dont do any aftermarket springs any justice.

Re: (B18CBungy)
Thanks for the response. I absolutely agree with you. Theres no way I'd keep stock shocks with lowering springs for more than I needed to until I could afford AGX. This is for the short term, and I'm curious as to how long short term can last me with this setup.

Re: (95EX)
i had eibach sportlines on stock shocks for a while like about 7-8 months. my shocks never blew, thank god. but it was just real bouncy. after that i sold my springs and went back to stock springs. cuz now i plan on buying a whole coilover system like tein ss orthe basics. my friend on the other hand was dropped like 2 months on som kind os springs on stocks and the left front blew on him. i guess it depends on factors such as drop, road conditions, weight, stiffness of the spring, and etc and luck.

I went the cheap way and did neuspeed springs with stock struts and it rides pretty rough. When I get some more money together I will do some struts. If you can afford it do them together. I did them myself so its only time I'm wasting not money.

Im running sprint 2.25" springs on oe struts/shocks at 90k miles and no problems, but doing it all at once will give you better performance as well as less costs for install....

Re: (DelSol93Si)
I had my GC coilovers set at about a 2" drop for 1 year before I replaced my shocks with Koni Yellows. Only one shock was starting to show signs of wear, and my car had 80,000 miles on it.
Ride was a tad rough, but it wasn't horrible. On the highway it could get pretty bouncy. The ride is much firmer with Koni's.

Re: (96 SOHC VTEC)
Thanks people.. I still have one question, will lowering springs or coilovers most likely ride better / last longer on stock shocks?

Re: (95EX)
my stock shocks havent blown for over a year. lowered on neuspeed sports. it rides fine still. a little bouncy, but not bad at all.
the difference between springs and coilovers how they ride... it depends on the spring rates. u cant really say springs ride better than coilovers, because u can get really stiff springs. and same with coilovers...
edit- this is jcstites - not ball bag , heh
