Default timing question/problem..plz help

k i have a b16a2 timing on cams and all seemed to be correct. all lines matched up perfectly top to bottom on belt. car idles, but when i go to get a reading with my timing light i cant seem to get a correct one. i am hooked up to wire 1 ( the left most wire) and even with the gun set at 0 and distributor pushed furthest away i cant get anywhere near 16degrees... can anyone help me.. what could be off?? i know my timing belt and everything is lined up.. so i'm just lost.. any ideas ??

you have it hooked up to the wire farthest from the distributor, that's the #1...

Did you jump the CEL connector under the dash? If not, that could be an issue, more so with stabilizing the idle when checking the timing.

If you arent able to get the timing marks to line up correctly you may have skipped a tooth. If it drives really sluggish, the cam timing if off.
