just wondering...b16-->b18
i was just wondering if you could take a b16 block, put a 1.8 crank in it, and slap on a deck plate to make up the difference in the strokes between the two engines (i don't know how big a deck plate you would need.)
is it possible to make a ghetto b18c this way?

i wanna know if its possible, not whats better. and if you could do the work yourself (and if what i'm talking about is possible), i would think buying a 1.8 crank and a deckplate would be cheaper than going LS/vtec. you wouldn't have to buy a new block or head, you already have the b16 tranny, decent pistons (as oppossed to having a b18b, buying a new head, LS/vtec lines and gizmos, having a crappy tranny, etc)
might need to notch block to clear crank..... something you can do w/ a b16 is use the b17 crank and rods......if you did happen to use the gsr crank.... and you dont need to notch the block.... i'm not really sure.... you could use .137 raised wrist pin pistons with the shorter LS rods and that would clear the deck but would bring your r/s ratio down. the deck plate if made would need to be in the neighborhood of .525"
thanks aaron. so its possible then. would it be more work/cost than an LS/vtec setup (provided you used the same cr ratio that the stroked b16 would offer, same other stuff to make the same amount of power)?

Ls/vtec isnt really too expensive.You can run on the botton end if you want,but its recomended too put arp rod bolts in too rev higher.You couls run completley stock bottom end on the ls/vtec and rev too 7k safely.Allthough it wont be as good as 8k-9k.I would bring the block too a machine shop have them bore it out too a 2.0.Then blockguard it,and have custom pistons placed in,With 11-12 compression or so.That should be cheaper and alot faster than the set-up you would be trying.And if ya want they make deck plates for the ls,allthough expensive.I dont know anyone who has ever had one.But i would expect numbers around 250+ if it was built properly.
ls/vtec cheaply.... buy a b16 swap (pr3).... grab the head, pistons, and tranny from the swap.... get golden eagles ls/vtec kit w/ headgasket and crap.... buy new rings for the pistons, buy new bearings for the bottem end, have the cylinders honed... put it together.... get a chipped p28, or a chipped b-series vtec ecu and call it a day
and to answer your question..... ls/vtec would be cheaper..... and easier to make the power where as the b16 w/ deck plate and notched block would be kinda expensive because of custom fab. work, it might could be a badass set up but still its an all motor honda and you could really only look for about 210-220 hp at the wheels at the most w/ crazy parts on the street.
