LS/VTEC Help
I am considering an LS/VTEC swap into my 90 crx si. I was curious if you can put the crankshaft out of a B16 into the block from a B18(A or B) since the B16 crank is zero balanced so I don't have to worry about high rev problems. Also would I have to use the rods/pistons from the B16 or could I put the B18 ones on that crank?
Thanks

first of all...why the hell would you want a b16 crank if you are building a LS VTec? doesnt that kinda defeat the purpose? the B18 A and B are internally balanced as well, so you have no arguement there. The LS block is as good as the GSR block minus the squirters....
Yes they are balanced, but not to as strict of standards as the VTEC blocks since they weren't meant to spin as fast. I do have an argument, I have heard of several cases that people have problems at higher rpm's(excess of 8,000)

Hello, any motor will spin if balanced properly.....I have been around racing motors my entire life, mainly domestics, but the same priciples hold true. There arent any strict standards that a V Tec crank is spun to, what is it? Id like to see. You can spin any motor no matter what the r/s ratio is, i do agree high speed balancing is a must with LS cranks. The cranks from B18's and B16's are made from the same material and balanced per weight of the combo.
