Default 1/2 vtec...

Well i bought a prelude about 2 or 3 weeks ago...somewhere around there and when i got it, VTEC didnt engage. So then i checked the usual stuff....oil pressure, solenoid...all of that stuff. I cleaned the film thing on the solenoid and it started working properly and it engaged in every gear, but here is my new problem. Now it will only engage sometimes. An example would be it would engage in 1st, but not in 2nd or 3rd but would engage in 4th, or it wouldn't engage in 1st but it would in 2nd and 4th but not 3rd. If i turn the car off and turn it back on it will engage through all the gears if i never stop getting on it, but then when i stop at a stoplight or somthing like that it goes back to only engaging sometimes.....any ideas of why it would do this? Only thing i can think of is ECU because doesnt the ECU reset everytime the car is turned off? Thanks for the help in advance

check all of your wires and connections again. then check them after that.

it sounds like you have a problem with it.

and use the enter button dude. it will make your post easier to read.

check your oil, h22's are known for burning oil and vtec uses oil pressure so if your low on oil your vtec might not engage

Check & clean your Vtec solenoid again, check all connections to it make sure all are good, if it still persists think about replacing solenoid. By the way is tranny auto ? if so is the fluid level at max.

no, the car is a 5 spd and i will be checking the wiring after school tomorrow along

with the oil and if problem is still around i guess i will just take it to a honda

dealership so they can rip me off with their high *** labor costs and get it fixed.

Check the wiring; the oil would have to get really low for it to not kick in VTEC.

What you need to do is flush your motor. Changing a dirty screen will only solve the problem till it gets full of s@#$.

Agreed on that flushing oil will help remove the deposits which have probably been breaking loose and causing the solenoid screen to get blocked up, prevention is better than cure, I would give a good flush before you do a normal oil change it's suprising how much sh** comes out when you flush first.
