Default All of those running the Sidewinder, how many of you are having trouble with heat?

I have been planning on running the Sidewinder for a while now, but many of the recent posts I have seen on it talk about having very high under the hood temps. Are any of you experiencing this?

If you are worried about under hood temp problems, just get the manifold ceramic coated. It would even help your spool time too.

or you could wrap it in that header wrap

i had very high underhood temps with the SST.

The runner lengths on the SST and the SideWinder are very similar, so naturally so will the underhood heat. There are several ways to alleviate this:
-heat wrap(dont recommend, degrades material exponentially faster than open air).
-Ceramic coating helps, but doesnt cure
-Vented hood(ricey, but WORKS)
-remove the seal at the windsheild base, this will vent alot of air out
-stick some washers between the hood hinges, this will vent even more air out
-or be like me all last summer and say Xnay on the hood

washers on the hood thing . hehehe never thought about that. people will think im running ITB's with my hood all up in the back , lol .
Is the under hood temps alot? I was told to watch for my CF hood melting?

youll be ok. CF will hold up to heat alot better than painted steel(providing its not DIRECT contact)

I thought about jet coating, but heard it hardly helped. The hood thing sounds pretty good though. I have a Teg, and have seen people remove the inner light to help vent.

what for inner liner?i have no fender liners and dont have the rubber line on my hood anymore and the intercooler sits back behind the bumper and gives some space for air to come in , so i hope that helps.

Jet coating mainly helps with keeping the heat inside the runners(which is good for power production). No matter what though, you will still have heat conduction through the manifold material, and eventually through whatever coating is there.

Fabbing up a heatshield would probably do some good as well. I would imagine just some thin Al sheet bent up would keep things under control.

Look at this:
http://www.hpcoatings.com/hipercoat_extreme.htm

They claim more than a 60% reduction of header/manifold skin temp.

Also swain does great coatings:
http://www.swaintech.com/autolc.html

They claim up to a 75% reduction in under hood temps.

Either of these are very good and you can still wrap the mani with thermal wrap.

my car was overheating until I wrapped it. After wrapping the mani the car has not done anything funny. I thought about venting the hood but I dont want rain running onto a hot manifold. I also cut some alluminum flashing from Home Depot and made a heat sheild for the under part of the hood so the heat doesnt bake off the paint.

I don't know about the sidewinder but with my equal length tubular manifold my under the hood temps were ALOT higher then with a regular cast log manifold. Its definitly not a bad idea to do something to keep the heat in the manifold.

we hacked a big *** hole in the hood to get rid of the heat and cause todd's (overblownmotorsports) manifold was hitting the hood. having manifold hangin out the hood is the new hotness

Wonder how this will do 1/4" wall stock all around, high silicon ductile iron, they come ceramic coated with any color desired.
Oh, this is Cyphear's manifold, which will be dynoed today.
