just did a compression and leakdown, what do you make of it???
sorry about the double post.
so i'm burning lots of oil and trying to pinpoint the problem, the compression #'s seem good to me, from looking at this does it tell you any obvious problems???
cyl #1 232 leakdown 12%
cyl #2 225 18%
cyl #3 244 10%
cyl #4 232 12%
the bottom end is stock and the motor has 120k on it.
thanks

hmmm looks like cylinder 2 is a little weak. And as far as the leakdown goes, I think the helms says anything under 8-10% is acceptable, more than that and there might be a problem. That would mean you are on the borderline for all cylinders. Someone correct me if Im wrong. Could you hear where it was leaking to (valve seals, manifold, etc.)?
white smoke. i can only see it in first, probably because it revs up so fast and i'm not going that fast.

really? i dont know, i've heard both ways. the mechanic said that if it was the valve seals i'd hear it out the exhaust and the rigns would be the oil cap, but i've also heard the opposite.

I dont know for sure, thats what I was led to believe. Im sure someone else in here will know for sure.

does the white smoke vaporize instantly or does it stay?
if it dissappears quickly its just water vapor so no problem there.
this is probably not going to help you, but it wouldn't hurt to check anyways. check the sparkplug to see if there's any white condensation on them..if they are, then coolant is leaking and headgasket needs to be replaced.

according to them my leakdown #'s are bad, its amazing how everyone has different information. people have told me that above 5% is bad and i've also been told thatup to 25% is acceptable! lol

yeah i dont know how reputable that site is, but its just something i found quickly as a reference. im surprised others havent contributed much to the thread bc I would like to know as much as possible as well for when I finally get a chance to do the leakdown on my R. :shrugs:
does anyone else have some advice? someone mentioned to me that my rings might be fine but my oil control ring might be bad and that would explain the loss of oil but the good comp #'s?
