wastegate newbie question

Default wastegate newbie question

whats the consequences in having a wastegate with 13psi spring on a turbo set on boost 8psi... thanks in advance for your help...

HUH??!! Im gonna take a wild guess that your gonna run an external gate for 13psi..and still have an internal wastegate for 8psi. Well...if this is the question..then you'll still run 8psi.

what im trying to imply is that i know if u have an externally gated 8psi spring and you boosted more than that i believe that the spring will give up... now lets say i boosted 8 psi on a 13 psi spring, from your reply you still going to boost 8psi... now does setup have any effect???

You can't boost lower than what the wastegate is set at. I caught what you are confused about...You have the misconception that if the wastegate is set at a certain psi..you can't go beyond that..this is false...your psi spring is telling you the minimum amount of boost that wastegate will put out.

(eg. If you have a 6 psi spring..you can boost anything beyond 6psi..but you can't go below 6....

If you have a 10psi spring..you can boost anything beyond 10...but you can't go below 10)
