Egt gauge location dp or manifold
ok i am going to get a greddy egt gauge....
i know that the manifold is the best place for the best reading
but i have heard of egt's getting to high melting the probe and then the probe flys into your turbo
so i was thinking the downpipe for saftey reasons but will i get an accurate reading?

in the manifold is fine. A lot of people on here run it in the manifold. Also the greddy unit is top notch and wont melt and drop into the turbo
my autometer probe is right behind the turbo in the DP just like the instructions said to install it. Greddy might be different.
i have an autometer EGT and it install before the turbo in about 3 inch of the head
it is good???
in the instruction, it tell to install it at 2 inch of the head but i could.

Had an Autometer dual channel EGT on my old Supra. The probes were about 6 in away from the exhaust ports and just fine. I would think a probe designed to read temps in the 1600F range will be fine in the mani. If your temps get hot enough to melt the probe, you have bigger problems. my friend. Besides, post turbo EGT 's aren't as accurate as manifold temps.

i would like to know what is the perfect temperature of the mixture???
How hot is really to hot and need to give more fuel.
Thanks

most of the install i have seen and done are in cyl 3 on the runner approx 6inch away from the port. We have shown the best reading there.
I think Autometer say to put the probe behind the turbo on a FI car. Can someone reread the installation instructions about that. I can't find mine.
The hottest mine has gotten is 1400F on the highway doing like 100mph in fifth. The temperature is relative. If you want to know where you are lean and rich, then get on a dyno, tune your car, and then refer to the EGT on what temps are lean and rich. In this case, it wouldn't matter if you have the probe before or after the turbo. True, if you have the probe behind the turbo then the temperatures for lean and rich will differ from a probe in front of the turbo on the same car. Once again, temperature is all relative. In my case, (probe after turbo) my lean and rich temps will be numerically higher than if I had my probe before the turbo.

i have an autometer kit and they ask in the intruction to install it 2 inch of the cylinder head. I think it's really close. I will recheck to be sure.
