Is it necessary to weld in a bung on the manifold for an EGT probe? or is just tapping it good enough? I was just thinking. I was reading SCC mag that turbo matrix project they did (I think it's the july issue... the one with the scooby on the front). They tapped it in that install but they said they tapped because it was in a rush, and it would have been better to weld in a bung for it for something that would be driven daily (or something of that nature). How many people have a bung welded and how many just tap it?
We just drilled and tapped our SFP manifold on project GSR turbo for the Greddy EGT gauge, and it's had no problems.....if your manifold is thin-walled then welding a bung would be better, but otherwise I don't see any problems with tapping it....

Yeah, you can weld a bung on later if you want to, just drill the hole you tapped a little larger and weld a bung on there......you should be fine tapping the manifold though

Tapping cuts female threads in a hole its done with a tap.
Using a die cuts male threads on a rod or bolt its done with a die.
