Default NA/Turbo?

alrighty, im running an EJ civ, Y7 motor... im thinking of keeping it and mini-me swaping it with a y8 vtec head. and running NA, or turbo.. i want to turbo cuz i like the power gains from it, but i like NA cuz u can get the same from NA as u could turbo, with less maintience, but from what i hear is much much more expenisive? is this tru yes or no? and also, i dunt know much about NA and i want the best NA engine i could buil myself, i was also thinking of swaping like a b-series, and definately wanting to go NA with one of those, but i also wanted to see what i could achieve with my D-series engine, but what would be the best for NA on a b-series ?

Yeah, OK. When was the last time you heard about a 250 HP NA D series? Or how about a 500 HP NA B series?

Do a search. All your questions will be answered. This has been hashed, rehashed, cooked, fried, hard boiled, and regurgetated many times.

think about it ********. how many true built NA cars r out there vs the IHE cars. most ppl do not do full buildups. even though there r tons on HT. u cant compare NA race cars vs turbo race cars. think about true street driven machines.

I asked the same question man n/a or turbo on the same motor... got flamed.... I say do what you feel is better for the car and your budget. I wanted to go n/a cuz all i want is 150 at the wheels.... cuz its a daily driver... and i cant afford a swap or turbo setup.... so from a fellow dx owner... DO what you do

In the end its cheaper to just slap a turbo on, but if you want more than 200+ horse.... you will need to build up your engine either way. sleeves, p&p, pistons rods..ect.... but I know a sohc n/a can be done and make alot of power... but plan on spending alot... depends on how much you have... just like me... broke as a joke...

Don't expect more then 200whp with a fully built camed out, ported within an inch of it's live D series VTEC motor. Won't happen. Even Hondata would have troubles pulling that out of an all motor SOHC VTEC. Expect to spend upwards of $8K. Just get a swap. Or run FI.

10.6 all motor? From a SOHC motor¿ Even a B series hatch all motor gutted and tube framed would be super expensive to get into the 10's.... hard to believe man.

If you put in aftermarket pistons and raise the compresion does it change the way the car souds alot.

there isn't many people that build up there cars around here so I had to ask on here (it's been geting to me)

If you have a friend running 10's in the quarter beating cars running boost and outragous ammounts of nitrous, then you need to go ask him how to do it.

Thats a magic trick I have yet to learn.

OK, I'll think about it, because obviously you didn't.

how many true built NA cars r out there vs the IHE cars.
Not as many because those that are serious about power will NEVER waste money on building up an NA motor.

most ppl do not do full buildups.
...because the HP/ $ ratio is so low compared to boosting.

even though there r tons on HT.
No way! Tons of cars on HT! You gotta be shittin' me.... All along, I thought this was HARLEY-Tech! ******' A...

u cant compare NA race cars vs turbo race cars.
No ****, so why are you trying to tell me NA cars will be as fast as turbo cars? There's no ******* comparason! In the allmighty quest for HP, the two deciding factors are displacement and volumetric efficiency. You with me so far, sparky? OK, so guess what a turbo does! It effectively INCREASES both VE AND displacement! WOW! Do you understand this now? Do you want me to draw you a ******* diagram with colors and pie charts and ****?

think about true street driven machines.
I am. I know you're not, so let's do some simple math...

Stock '95 Si hatch- 125 HP.
Add headers ($300)
... exhaust ($450)
... intake ($200)
Total cost: $950. HP gain: 20 HP if you're lucky. $/ HP ratio: $47.50 per HP.

Take all that **** off and throw it over the fence into your neighbors yard and add a Greddy turbo: $1500.
Total cost: $1500. HP gain: 65 HP. $/ HP ratio: $23.07 per HP (and you get more HP too!)

*edit- let's cut the magazine racing bullshit. I don't care if your friend can push his car to a 7 second standing mile. Speak from experience or shut the **** up. This goes for everyone that's replied to this thread.

(Type-X) From your first post it seems that you think that an NA is something you put on your motor, its not. NA is Naturally Aspirated wich means naturaly breathing. NOT forced ie: Turbo or Supercharger. Therefore you cannot have an NA motor if you have a turbo. If you would like further explaination, let me know.

Sorry to jump to conclusions but this line kinda pointed me there:
but what would be the best for NA on a b-series ?
Either way you are going to spend a lot of money getting a car into the 10's

simple....with a boosted engine, simply turn down the boost for daily driving....15 psi for daily-even less, and 20 for track. This puts a LOT less wear on components and still aloows you to have fun on the street.

With NA, you're always running the same compression, no matter what. I know a few people running 12.5 to 1 on the street, and it's not too fun. Too much for tuning, etc to make it a dependable daily beater.
