Default after home many PSI do u need boost retard

I just wanted to what everyone thinks or that is the common law behind psi and boost retard, for spark timing . im on 9 psi and i have no timing control.. just i have the distributor pull all the way back .. and i have my ecu custom chiped to retard .075 under load instead of advancing... what do u all think ...

Bump ^^

I'm also curious on hearing what the general rule is about this.. I'm running 6 psi on a greddy kit on a D16Z6 and I want to boost more but I can afford to plop down 750 bucks for a MSD 6BTM...

Also...BtM are only like $350 ish..

You can get a timming computer form jegs or summit for a little over $100

depend on your compression,octane etc..
my btm is set at .40-.50 after 5 psi
btw i have 8.8:1compression and we have 94 oct here

Yes, my friend has taken his d16 up to 16psi w/ only .25 degrees...no detonation.

Stock SOHC z6, Apexi turbo kit, Apexi V-AFC, 370cc injectors and missing link.

I told him he was crazy, but he pulled a 13.4 w/ z10 bars on a stock block at 16psi.

I don't recommend this at all.

They have the btm that you hook up to a stock ignition for about $169 and the one you hook up to an aftermarket ignition for about $180

I was running .5 per/lb with the BTM before I got the Hondata.

This is distributor timing, right? and with hondata, it can do this on its own, right?

Just curious, if you are willing to spend $750, why not doing it right and get yourself a S100 or S200 with boost? It's a much better way to spend your money, not to mention it gives you more control over fuel and ignition timing and other various settings such as rev limit, vtec point, open loop point. etc.

yeah... to risk his motor like that on 16 psi for a 13.4 time slip doesn't seem all that great. if it was a 12.4 then i'd say well it's only what a $400 motor? nice times... but a 13.4... common

i've heard just to pull a little timing and you'll be fine until 10 psi
after that get the BTM or some other form of boost retard

depends on the octane level gas u use and the compression ratio of the motor.

u can get away w/ stock timing up to a point. and then u might have to retard more and more as the boost goes up. and then theres a point where u have taken too much timing out which can be dangerous as well.

but.. .75deg retard per psi seems to be a good place to start
.5 deg retard/psi it still conservative but will make more power
.25 i would only do up to 10psi then i'd take out more.

if u look at the people tuning stock honda motors successfully they seem to take the higher boost/lesser timing approach. It has worked well on my car so far. running .7deg retard/psi

I ran stock timing at 7psi w/ b18b and t04e. it ran great for a year. then i got hondata and turned up the boost more. but if u want to play it safe yeh .25deg retard up to 8psi would work nicely/.
