can you weld aluminum to steel?
I got a steel bov flange and i was wondering if it can be welded to a aluminum inatke pipe. I thought I was going to use all steel but I kinda just want to re use my intake pipe. Will it work?
The simple and cost effective answer here is .... No.
For academic interest only....aluminum and steel can be "welded" explosively in thin sheets. Its called "welding" but basically the atoms get happy with each other in microscopic ways. It does not stay together long, because of the drastically dissimilar coefficients of thermal expansion of the two metals.
So peruse the catalogs for an aluminum flange, or fire up your CNC mill and make a few out of a nice weldable Aluminum alloy. Then you can sell the steel one and meet someone new.

Yes. Here's part of my AEM intake piping welded to a mild steel pipe. It's an ugly weld but it's held up for 2 months now.
