Default Steel or Aluminum?

Well I bought this BLITZ BOV right? It comes with a Steel flange with it, now, I don't know if my charger pipe will be aluminum or steel, I imagine that I can choose when I get to the shop cuase they said they could make one for me.

now I don't feel like paying a extra to buy a Aluminum flange but.. if I do have to get a steel charger pipe.. is it bad?? Or does it make no real big difference??

I mean.. as long as both are strong and will work, I dont' care. But if steel like to crack and blow up and melt and cuase radiation and stuff... I will get another aluminum flange.

I need to know soon.. thanks...

You cannot weld steel to aluminum, or aluminum to steel. So keep that in mind.

Steel charge pipes work just fine.

steel is really not that much haeavier, its a stregth to weight ratio thing, you can use the same diameter Al tubing and it will be lighter than steel, also mils steel will have a tendency to rust on the inside from all the compressed turbo air condensing water vapour into droplets / humid or not. Aluminum requires an expensive welding setup. I use stainless 16 gauge, I like the smooth surface and the great welds.

stainless is the nice stuff just little expensive but well worth it compared to the mild stuff. Aluminum is nice if oyu got someone to weld it for your for cheap. I can weld it but it takes so much effort to do it cleanly. and stainless i can make it look really really nice.l

you can braze or silver solder them, can't weld them. the metals don't mix.

they are unlike, steel is ferrous - iron containing, Al is non ferrous, all they have alike is low carbon, if you do get them joined, it will not be a homogeneous bond. it will be mechanical. good luck doing things this way.

I believe the "weird" part is called soldering or brazing. From a strictly metallurgical standpoint you cannot "weld" aluminum to steel, but there are many OTHER ways you can join the two materials together.
