Default Restoring Questions.

hey guys I've had an 05 red ap2 since 05 and I had been thinking about selling it but have decided just to keep it and restore it. I have 175,000 on the engine and while it still runs fine I just wondered what everyone does with the engines. Do y'all get the compression checked and rebuild the engine if it's not up to spec? I'm in upstate SC does anyone have a recommendation on where to take the car to have engine and tranny work done? Thanks

Look up central north Carolina speedshop. The engine can be rebuilt, but the FRM cylinder liners can be finicky. You need a machinist that has the correct hones for FRM sleeves and that had experience doing them. Honda has oversize pistons available for rebuild purposes. You can not use a regular off the shelf piston, as it must be FRM compatible. I believe Mahle makes an off the shelf FRM compatible piston. Other than that, it's easy to rebuild these engines.

Get the compression check first and then worry.
