I had a built motor that I built in my garage. It ran fine, until I melted a piston.

yeah it was an SRP. I have mixed opinions about SRP's. I think it's worth it to spend the extra money on the JE's but SRP's arent bad pistons. I think they are a tad softer then JE's though because of their higher silicon content to reduce piston expansion. They didnt slap at all once the engine was warmed up though and they only slapped for a few seconds during warm up. I think i ran 2.5 thou piston to wall clearance.

smoking could be from a bad turbo seal or something, happened to a friend of mine who had a built bottom end. thought the rings werent up to par since it was smoking a lot

Is that what SRP recommended? Wow. JE told me to set my clearance to 4thou. For full boosted turbo motor.

I had my motor built by a reputible shop (Bensons) and I had no problems at all, it ran great.. I have 2 friends that had motors built by local red neck ding dang shops and their motors both blew in less than 100 miles, no boost, and the turbos/head everything was scrapped... no warranty on high performance work!

Anyone have any opinion/experience on Eagle rods & Endyn/Wiseco RW pistons?

I was all set to purchase these when people began telling me to spend the money right etc on Crower/JE.

Blownhatch, yes for SRP pistons it is 2.5 thou. that's the whole point of the SRP pistons, they have a high silicon content so they expand less which allows you to run tighter clearances for a less slappy street car. For JE pistons the clearances are about 4 thou.
