Default Blew a headgasket on my D15b7 93 DX hatch. What can I do with/$1000

Looking for tips or advice. Its a bone stock and my daily driver. I've got my buddies Jeep I can use for a couple weeks. So I'm hoping I can knock it out in that time period.

I was looking at usedJDMengine.com which is near me in Baltimore. Supposedly they have some obd1 d15b in stock. I've wanted to put a B in there so I may just try to slap another headgasket on that thing. There's no water in the oil so it might get away with a quick fix.

Just looking for your guys thoughts ideas

Did you over heat it? If so, how badly?

It overheated. I pulled over as soon as I noticed something had happened. I let it cool and limped it half a mile to a gas station. Filled the coolant back up and drove another 1.5 miles but it was pressurising the coalant system bad so I left it at a nearby shop. I'm debating about renting a uhual dolly or maybe just having the shop fix the head gasket. I probably shouldn't have moved it again but I figured adding the coolant would keep me good on the short term. Temp gauge was normal when started but would quickly climb. It had almost completely lost power by the time I'd moved it 1.5 miles. Id guessed that the combustion leak was so strong it pushed the water out temp sensor area and I was just hoping some water was still moving through things.

Does that sound like new engine time to you?

You could go that route. I was asking as the head tends to warp when you over heat so you have to have it milled flat again before installing a new head gasket.

If you noticed it before it overheated, you could potentially get away with just doing the head gasket.

True. I'll put a straight edge on both the block and head. It was probably already warped. Why else would it let go? Are D series known for weak headgaskets? There seems to be alot of discussion soroundin that topic

The non vtec motors from 88-95 used a graphite composite gasket, not a Multi Layer Steel gasket.

That's what the TSB I posted is about.

The composite gasket doesn't last as long, that's all. But it works great to fill imperfections and rougher mating surfaces.

Thought I'd update this in case anyone else faces a similar situation. I put a new MLS head gasket on and it's holding fine. It was probably a waste of time and money though as the oil light now takes forever to go out when the motor is cold. It's not a faulty light as when it finally goes out the lifter noise stops. I put some 15w40 hoping that would help but if it is it's minimal. My guess is I either roached the main and rod bearings or the oil pump is scored up.

I'm on borrowed time with it and it's my daily so I need to figure out what to do.

Ok so 15w40 made the situation worse. Maybe the pickup is clogged.

Did you change the oil filter?

The engine does not have hydraulic lifters. The noise you hear must be something else.

Changed the oil filter. Roger that on lifters. The noise is subtle.
