[help!] Power Window Pinout '00 EX door in a '96 DX
So I bought a '96 DX coupe beater, the door panel and glass were missing. It was easier to replace the whole door than find all the missing parts. So I threw on a door from a 2000 EX with power windows. I'm trying to figure out where I need to apply power to make the switch work. I'm only concerned with getting the drivers window to work, since the other window is obviously manual. I have a couple questions.
1) 12v right? Makes the most sense to me...
2) What is the color(s) of the wire that I need to put the (+) voltage to in order order to get power at the switch?
3) There are two different obvious ground wires in the switch pack. They're both black. There may be other grounds, but I'm not sure. Which of these wires do I need to ground and do they share a common ground or do they need to be grounded separately.
4) What's the best spot to pull v from, since I have no power at the door?

Re: [help!] Power Window Pinout '00 EX door in a '96 DX
I understand why there are 10 pins for the windows. 2 pins make a set for each circuit. One set for up, one for down. Two windows make 8 pins. Then the last two are either for the auto function of the driver window or the window lock. But that picture doesn't specify which pins are associated to the driver window or which function each set performs.
Of course all that assumes each switch has its own power and ground. Which I can't confirm. For all I know there's a common ground.
I'm no further ahead than just simply looking at which wires go into the switch box.

Are you saying you have never looked up the power windows circuit diagram for 96-98 versus 99-00 Civics in the service manual?

There are several threads about adding power locks and windows to your dx model or hatch back.
To cliff notes your search, you also need the complete interior floor harness from the donor car to connect your drivers side switch to the passengers side to connect it to the power source which also connects to the door lock control module. On 1996-98 cars the module is located in the drivers door, on the 99-00 cars it is located inside the cabin under the kick plate that holds the hood release latch inside the car.
You will need to rewire your interior harness to make a 1999-00 door operational. If you can not decipher the door harness pinout I suggest just taking out the window regulator and motor and make it a crank window again

Re: [help!] Power Window Pinout '00 EX door in a '96 DX
For any other poor souls:
- Unplug the door switches from the harness.
- Find the two grounds (both black)
- Apply 12v to the leads that are associated with those grounds. IIRC, they're blue and green and on the edge of the connector block. You can simply snip the lead and "Y" them together to the same +12v source since you're only going to put power to one circuit or the other at a time. Don't forget a 20amp inline fuse.
- Same applies to the grounds. You can "Y" them to a single ground lead.
- I ran my 12v from the accessory power in the ignition switch. It's labeled when you get in there.
- I wrapped my ground around the screw for the foot rest.
- When you run the wires from the cab, you have to take the fender off. Seriously, it's easy.
- Fish it into the door, and solder everything together. Took about an hour.
