a general rule of thumb for a basemap is to retard .5 degrees of timing per pound of boost, compounded. im not sure if there is a setting in crome but you should switch to straight table timing in boost (makes it easier to tune).

right now, your car would be fine to drive to the dyno assuming you stay out of boost and you really dont have a knock "until 2100rpm."

it's not likely you have knock that low on a stock A1, unless it's rod knock. try retarding your distributor until you can have someone tune it.

I'm curious as to why you're pushing the car to 9psi if you should only be basemapping to get to the dyno?

That doesnt mean you have to drive at 9psi...
Set the boost cut to 2psi and keep your right foot out of boost until you get it tuned.

because if a stock motor is getting a bottom end knock on the oil recommended for it.. the problem isn't the oil.

You can put in a higher viscosity oil like you obviously did and it will only mask the sounds/symptoms. This is an old trick used by shady car salesman. If your engine is knocking you're already screwed. I'm boosted and I run what Honda recommends. 5W30 and it doesn't flow out of the engine like water when I do oil changes either. Now more than likely your buddy put something in with the oil like Seafoam because that **** will have your oil at the consistency of ink.

and if your just tuning or flashing chips per say and do not have a wideband installled... expect your engine to go boom.....

also for basemap i pull .75-.9 per psi of boost until on the dyno i will fine tune ignition map after the fuel map is dialed in

0.9* per PSI on a stock B18A1 is absurd. On stock ignition you don't even need to start retarding until 3 PSI. You're just wasting dyno time if you take out more than 0.5*
But since the OP is driving like an idiot on a basemap what's the point in making boost adjustments at all...
