Reman d16 crank with boost, yes/no?
I got a z6 block/y8 head im building for 350whp boosted to go in my eg hatch. Ive got pistons/rods ordered (srp pistons, manley h beams with arp bolts), and arp head studs. BUT, my problem is, I have 2 cranks, found out both are no good. Scoring is too deep from spun bearings n they are gone. So, I looked at advance auto parts n what do ya know..they have remanned cranks going for 200 with bearings (rod and mains) to match! I was able to call an 800 number and speak with a rep n found a few things out. I can request a good crank (straight .020/.020) which is good, but when I asked what kind of bearings were used, they said federal mogul, king, or clevite, and that those could not be requested. So, with all that said, should I go with the remanned crank with bearings, or go get a junk yard crank, get it checked and cut if necessary, and get ACL race bearings??
Your thread has been up for 2 hours. 2 HOURS.
Stock Honda cranks are very strong, a cut crank also loses the factory nitrite coating unless it is re-coated. I would find a good oem Z6/A6/ZC crank and use that.
On the subject of bearings, ACL Race are a hard-type which do not imbed contaminants in your oil. This means it is more likely to score your crank. They also give you looser clearances compared to a soft-type. I'd run King, Clevite, or ACL STD bearings.
