Stock Minime+Boost. I am doing it! Advice Please
Good day guys,
I bought a 99 civic with a z6/y7/s40 swap. I have all new parts I need to boost it. I am not upgrading the internals, I want to see what kind of power I can get with stock engine. Not sure how much CP changed with y7 block. I am going to tune it for 10psi, just enough so i don't have to change my map sensor. Setting psi to 6 and go up slowly. Probably tune for E85 fuel if it lasts awhile. Here's what I got...
stock head/block... I think (previous owner just swapped, so i assume gaskets and belt have been replaced)
t3t4oe 50trim .63 a/r garrett turbo
cast manifold
2.5" dp/ cat then straight 2.5" exhaust to a big can muffler
tial 38mm WG (5psi spring)
BOV
intercooler, 2.5" piping
walbro 255
ngk plugs
440 delphi high injectors
LC-1 wideband
manual boost controller, gauge
p28 chipped with crome pro, ostrich emulator and data logger
New clutch kit for 250hp power
So that's whats lying in my garage, some installed, just waiting for the clutch kit to arrive before i can move on and finish.
Once together and running, I usually take whatever i am trying to street tune across the street in a big parking and have some fun. Then off to the dyno.
If you have any knowledge and or experience (build, tune, DO'S and DO NOT'S) with what i am about to do please clue me in. I am use to boosting b16's, not sohc minime swaps. Hopefully I can get 225whp for more than a week.

yea this dudes right and u better hope your gasoline is top notch 91 or your not gonna last very long. 220whp in a d series civic is a very fun car and should be pretty competitive among normal everyday cars but if your trying to make crazier power to keep up or beat exotics then i would definitely consider a b swap or k swap turbo

but if your motor can handle it just retard .75 degrees per pound across the whole boost table, and keep air fuel ratio under full throttle in the 13s below 4500rpm then have it start diping and have it float in the 12.0 to 11.7 range thru redline. this should generate the most power and look at your spark plugs after a couple pulls

we have 93 on the east coast :p
but yea 220 is about as far as a stock d series will go before connecting rods start turning into projectiles

he wouldnt... not on that setup... he cant even reach the limits of 93 so its not like e85 is gonna be some witchcraft that allows you to make more than 220... plus its gonna require an assload of injector, more than 440s
I was thinking e85 because it keeps your engine running much cooler and less of a chance for detonation. Plus I have everything to do it. May as well give it a try. And I don't really want to go past 225whp. But if the motor goes, then i will prob rebuild and go for 350hp. This civic in now become my hobby/ project car. Thanks for the advice on timing and afr under boost. They seem a little overkill ( retard per pound) but its defiantly on the safe side. I will start out my tune as you suggested (.75/lb to1.0/after 4psi) I have 93 oct across the street.

At 225hp you aren't even near the remote possibility of have detonation. And e85 keeps your motor cooler because it requires quite a bit more fuel compared to say 93. So not only are you not seeing any benefit from running e85 but you're getting worse fuel mileage which means wasting more.money every time you drive the car.
And Im tying to tell you, you run that motor at 225+ fwhp and you're driving a rod throwing time bomb

Well, Months later after breaking, buying parts and fixing oil leak issues i finally got her boosted. Put in a good street tune (rich with a step timing retard per boost) with crome pro and I cant believe how good it is running. When the turbo spools the rpms top out within seconds. I picked the best sounding bov I ever heard, fluttering (like the whistling nerf football). In two weeks I will be taking it to MAPerformance (who helped me with oil leak) in MN to get her tuned with E85. I had my Integra beating ws-6 trans ams 7 years ago, and this little car pulls almost as hard as my integra. Any questions you have, i will happily tell you what i have went through.
