Default User feedback on AEM Tru-boost system wanted!

Hey FI forum,

I am currently completing the gauges and fuel system for my setup.

I will be using Hondata S300

All my other gauges (AFR, OilPres and EGT) will be AEM

I am stuck between using the AEM Tru-boost Cntl/gauge or the Hondata system

I am aware they use the same controller assembly.

The Tru-boost's programmable boost settings, overboost protection, scramble feature and warnings are all appealing to me.

Hondata's system is also appealing due to the integration with the S300 and the boost-by-gear feature.

Interested in some REAL user feedback of the AEM system, I am not looking for trolls telling me to call AEM and ask (I DO NOT WANT A SALES PITCH).

pro's/con's is what I am looking for. Any additional information will be useful to me, specifically more info on the scramble feature for user actuated boost settings above preset values.

can users integrate the scramble feature to a on/off button for a on the fly boost value change?

I have watched the instructional video, the system seems very user friendly, anyone have any issues running the system correctly?

Any feedback is appreciated

thanks in advance

-Adrian

If you are going to be running Hondata S300 why on earth would you install an AEm truboost ? get the components installed into your ecu and use the boost by gear or just the boost controller in general through the S300 software. Much better results and features going stright through your hondata. you will probably get alot of the same posts saying the same thing. I'm putting down over 400whp with boost by gear with hondata and the only gear i spin is 1st gear, that is even correctable because with the new 4-port solenoids or running two 3 port solenoids you can run a much smaller WG spring and still obtain high boost 30+ psi. i will be switching to a 4 psi spring n my wastegate for traction in 1st gear soon and installing the 4 port solenoid

^^ This is why I am stuck, I understand the connectability within the S300 and the Hondata boost controller, on top of both systems using the same solenoid assembly. The AEM system integrates more user friendly features, like the overboost protection (solenoid shutoff) and warnings.

I like your feedback and appreciate the "why bother" approach, since I was thinking the same thing myself. I have worked with plenty cars utilizing the hondata system and boost-by-gear. More/less I am trying to explore a different (potentially better) system. Just looking for personal experiences with the AEM system as I explore my options! I have yet to work with the Tru-Boost controller which is why im interested in finding more information!

s300 has overboost protection also. Your already buying s300 and it will do what you want it to so why buy anything else?

Random question while we are on the subject, to change your boost level while using s300 are you guys literally having to hook up a laptop to make the appropriate changes or using a separate boost controller for on the fly changes?

s300 noob here just starting to read up on it

I use the laptop to set it up. I don't make changes to it since I'm happy with it. I use the hi/low boost function. It has 2 boost by gear maps you can toggle between them.

Gotcha but just for reference the high/low boost options or "2" boost by gear maps have to be changed via the laptop? There's no plug & play unit that can be attached to the system to avoid having to use the laptop interface for on the fly changes or to switch between the high/low option on the fly? Thanks bud

Hondata has everything aem truboost has and probably more. just go with hondata boost control. believe me if you have a seporate controller you wont be as happy, ive been down that road before with a turbosmart eboost, although an incredable piece and much better than the truboost and probably the s300 boost by gear it was a hastle too. one piece ntegrated stuff is always easier and more reliable

well... i had a horrible experience with the true boost.. i dont no if i got a bad 1 from the factory or what but i had it all installed corectly and the dam thing was set at 5 lbs of boost i was driving it 1 morning to work and i droped the hammer on it and it stayed steady at 5lbs then shot up to 23lbs on my stock ls before i new what happend the motor stayed together and went like a streak of ****. but it scared the hell out of me at 5 in the morning and it was only 3 days old and i got home and riped it out and threw it away. but that is my experience with it and i would not reccomed it and i have herd that happen to a couple of ppl..

Yes you have to set it up and make changes with a laptop. You can wire up a swtich to be able to change between the two on the fly. I'm not real sure what it is that your looking for because once you set it up your not going to need to mess with it. I'm not aware of a plug and play unit you can use but why would you need more than 2 boost tables for a on the fly change?
