Haltech vs. AEM EMS
I did a search on haltech and aem but I want more info from users. I know everyone is going to AEM cause of its plug and play charachteristics, but are there any advantages over the haltech system. I know with haltech you have a built in turbo timer and boost control and it uses realtime so you can tune witht the car running. AEM you haft to buy additional harnesses and such. I can get a great deal on both that is whyI am debating. HOndata is 3rd on my list..

Re: Haltech vs. AEM EMS (tygsr)
im in the same boat you are. i dont know which one to go with. I havent heard that much about the Haltech system, and as for hondata i hear its not that safe when running high boost and big injectors. So im leaning towards the aem system, but if you woud all haltech and aem users post on what you think about your set up

Haltech has been provened at the track. Ton's of cars run on haltech with no problems.
Aem is plug and play.
Both good systems.
Edit- You should go with the sytem yourn tuner is most comfortable with.

Re: Haltech vs. AEM EMS (tygsr)
Well i use/tune with haltech. Haltech's can be made plug and play for obd-1 cars from phantom motorsports in utah, a guy there by the name of mark does it. The plug and play conversion haltech runs 1250.00 from them with a few base maps loaded.
Reason i like the haltech over the AEM (i have never tuned with the aem, i have played with the software extensively).
1. You can run high/low impedance injectors the haltech has both types of drivers so no having to get a resistor pack.
2. Haltech is in ms-dos, which i think is alot simplier to tune with. I dont need any fancy graphs/bars displays to tune with. Also you can run haltech on older laptops, where as the AEM you have to have a cd drive and a newer laptop to run the program effciently.
If i had to do it over again i probably would have gotten the AEM, but i choose haltech. The AEM has tons of features, whether they are actually needed is the real question. If the haltech wasnt offered in the plug and play version it would be between AEM and hondata. Screw wiring new harness/sensors into the engine...there is no need to with the new standalones and that is where the real convience lies to me.

Re: Haltech vs. AEM EMS (Boosted99Si)
Well I went ahead and ordered my EMS yesterday. I chose it because of its plug and play charachteristics and it doesnt take along time to tune, unlike the haltech. I spoke to mark at phantom and he said 10-20 hours on the dyno to tune correctly, compared to 4-5 hours for the AEM. I will be one of only two people who have this system in Utah so I am kinda sketchy on the tuning, but if it is as easy as it seems to be, shouldnt be a problem..

Re: Haltech vs. AEM EMS (tygsr)
10-20 hours on the haltech but only 4-5 hours with AEM? It really depends on the tuner. I have a tuner around me that can tune a haltech in about 4 hours. He's been messing with my AEM for about 8 hours and the previous tuner tuned it for about 5 hours. So it's all about how good the tuner is and how knowledgeable he is with the system (hands on experience).
