It's totally normal. It helps the engine warm up faster. 3k does sound a bit high though, but I have no experience with your specific model so can't tell for sure.

On my 98 LX, the idle was a little higher than normal. It was due to carbon buildup on the idle air control valve (IACV), which was stuck in the open position all the time. I pulled it out and cleaned it with carb cleaner, and it seems to idle normally now. Plus I am getting a little bit better MPG (could be a placebo effect though).

Not sure if the 93 has easy access to IACV on the throttle body as well. Talked to a mechanic, says he cleans an IACV about 3-4 times a week, and it takes care of about 95% of the idle problems he sees come in.

ok. I also have same problem. this is how I fixed it. What you need to clean out is called you FITV. Fast IDle Thermal Valve. This is directly below the Throttle body. It has 3 10mm bolts. Take off your intake first. Then remove the coolant line to the FITV. its towards the front of car for reference. Then remove the 3 bots. Take off the whole FITV and take apart. Spray with carb cleaner or brake cleaner. Also you will notice two notches or grooves in it. tighten this down all the way before reinstallation. This fixed my issue 100%.

Clean both FITV and IACV this took care of my problem unless you have a small vaccum leak
