Default manual boost controller question

manual boost controller question :

I have a wastegate with a 5 psi spring. I'll boost 15 psi.

is changing the boost with a manual boost controller adapter the same thing as changing the wastegate spring ?

is there any difference practically ?

is there any advantage of changing the spring ?

well, heres my thoughts on this..

Your tuned for a certain PSI to where your AFR is set to high 11's/12.

When u decide to add more boost, you adding more air then fuel which makes for lean conditions which will cause for

I have a neptune for tuning, and I tune by myself without any problems.

I'm asking if there's any difference other than tuning ?

ohh.. then rock on dude..

the boost controller does what it says (as long as its a decent one)

you can run lower spring pressure and use the controller to make it open at whatever range u want.

I wouldn't say whatever range you want. As a matter of principle most Electronic solenoids for EBCs as well as ball/spring MBCs can control about 2.5 times what the spring is in the wastegate. so for example, if you have a 7psi spring, you can go up to about 17.5 times what is in there. But be warned: after about 14psi (based upon the above example), it gets difficult to maintain the higher pressure of 17.5 that you're trying to hold.

so, if you run a bit too low, and try to go to a higher pressure that's beyond the springs capabilities, you won't be able to hold that higher pressure with much stability.

Its always best to get the spring just a bit under what you're looking for in terms of higher pressure. So say, for instance, if you want to run over 25psi of pressure, use an 18psi spring and go from there.

hmm
that's a nice explanation.
so for 5 psi spring, with a mechanic boost controller, I can use 12.5 psi without any problems according to your calculation.

right ?
