Default t3/t4 rebuild or buy new>?

I can get my turbo .50ar turbonetics rebuilt and machined to have a ball bearing. Or i can purchase a new one same price with a journal bearing.... anyone against rebuilds? it will be shipped to a known place in reno nevada where they also do balancing. they work on turbos and this is what they do....

Dont know where to go with this....

I think you're not getting a response because of 3 main reasons
1) we don't know the full specifications of the turbocharger that you have.. (that includes wheel measurements, and not just housing size).

2) we don't know the purpose of the car, or what you're mission is (please, don't state an E.T., that helps no one, really) we don't know if you're planning to drag race/ street strip/ circuit course, drive naked at bonneville salt flats for no reason, etc. LOL

3) We don't know your budget.. meaning your maximum willingness to spend on either a turbocharger or for the rebuild. Do you want to get a larger unit later? stay where you are? etc. The more we know about this, the more you can get some valid opinions and options.

As much as it seems as though you're writing an essay, and as much as many people think its work (ohh, boo hoo) its what you have to do sometimes on an online forum like this to get some real answers. Start with that, be clear with your answers, and I'm sure you'll get some great responses from people

ok I understand.

this wull be used for an LS/vtec turbo setup daily driven, it is a t3/t4 turbonetics I donthave the hot side at the moment but intake side is .50AR. made max 450HP on sleeved b20vtec in the passed. I shipped it out and I dont have it in my posession at the moment. My question is for $550 should I modify and rebuild old turbo top ball bearing from journal bearing and get balanced (questioning the life of the turbo), or should I purchase the same one new for $550 from a friend that never used his.

converting from journal bearing to a ball-bearing cartridge is as much as getting a new cartridge entirely. Again, this isn't question we can answer. what are you trying to upgrade to? if going to rebuild to be a larger turbocharger, than possibly yes. (This is why i asked about purpose for the car). If you're paying the same amount either way, there's nothing wrong with new.
