Dude that is like asking does ford make a car with wheels. T3 and T4 are general terms for a turbo family that Garrett/Precision/Turbonetics and several other companies made/makes, we will need more info for an accurate answer.

Thinking about going with the Garrett dual ball bearing T3/TO4E 50 trim with .63 A/R for use with a B16 engine. I only want about 240 horsepower so I know this can get the job done.

I was previously going to choose the journal bearing model of this same turbo so I could get quick spool. Then I thought I might as well see if that same turbo was available with ball bearings for quicker spool. Are there any downsides to a ball bearing turbo besides the higher price?

As a matter of principle, the ball-bearing version of most of the "T" series will not affect "spool" up times. As many have stated, simply using a steel bearing cartridge on a "T" series turbo only helps with a bit of durability in extreme racing, not for "quick" spool. The reason why it is used more on the GT-R series of Garrett turbochargers (and on the Precision line) is because they are using that bearing system with better aerodynamic compressor and exhaust wheels. Specifically on the most common ones here, the GT30XR and GT35XR series, their unique exhaust wheels and relatively new aerodynamic comrpessor wheels make these turbos respond in a why unlike the other "T" series models.

So if your purpose is to get "fast spool" on a B16, for only 240whp, just stick with the journal bearing version, or get something in the GT-R series. By the time you've purchased a T series Steel bearing cartridge, you could have purchased something that would have been a GT-R series that contained the better wheel designs.

Cliffs: T series DBB doesn't do anything special, only the GT-R series, because it uses better aerodynamic wheel designs in conjunction with the steel bearing cartridge.

So you mean something like a Garrett GT3076R 56 trim?

Would the .48 A/R or the .63 A/R be better?
