after talking to a tuner today about my set up, he was very against the b16a
my set up is
B16a block - honed and decked all new bearings ever seal has been replaces
JE 10.5:1 pistons
Eagle H-beam rods ARP rod bolts
ARP heads studs
Type-r head - decked
Super tech retainers
Super tech dual valve springs
Type-r cams
New Honda oem valve seals
Ferrea valves
Vented valve cover -10an fittings with custom catch can
Aem fuel rail
Aem fuel regulator
Fuel clinic 1000cc injectors
Inline fuel filter
Walbro 255 fuel pump
Skunk2 intake manifold
74mm blox throttle body
Half size radiator and slim fan
Turbo kit:
Garrett .60 t3/t67 .82 exhaust v-band NO shaft at all
3” boost piping
31x11x3 bar and plate intercooler
Tial bov
Tial 44mm wastegate
Top mount manifold
3” exhaust v-band
i told him i wanted to put about 350-400 to the wheels, yes i know it has stock sleeves but i figured it would still be able to handle it
he told me that 50% of the time b16a's fail with over 300 horsepower and they tend to burn oil and leak, after searching b16a handle more power on the stock block than the b18c does, he was praising that motor telling me i should have built it instead, etc
i just wanted to see what honda-tech has to say about running 350-400 whp on that set up, i wouldnt drive it hard at all, i would just want the power when i need it
was he just a b16a hater or did he shed some truth? much help is appreciated, i want it to be a pretty reliable set up with that much power

i made 420 on my STOCK b16 only with head studs. w peakboost 3076r kit and is still going...motec m4 ecu, t1 cop setup, e98/toulene fuel mixture. dont smoke or burn oil. runs 10s on a good track
sucks you built your motor for 350 whp
Find a new tuner.

Same here, STOCK B16, ebay 60-1, gsr tranny, Q16, 22 psi about 420whp runs 10.90's at 132 with 1.72 60ft's. at the track almost every weekend seen about 20 dyno pulls and 50-60 passes in the last 4 months
find another tuner....tuners tune...they dont have opinions....just tune it right and shut up or dont make money.
the b16 is a great motor to boost....so is the b18c.

i just tuned my b16a2 with a gsr head. same setup but i have sleeve block. i made allitle over 500hp with e85 on a 6262. the only small problem i ran into is that the b16 strock is 77mm VS gsr is at 87mm and LS is at 89mm. and it makes it just a tab bit harder to make torque with such a small strock. but yeah you need a new tuner. just my 2 cents
ive been to tuners all over the country and in other countries and they all have there own opinion to what they think. some think they are Paul walker wannabees i love it they think there god.
i made 502whp on my b16. most tuner are happy for me.
i guess he might be just giving you advise about having it built safely and doing it the correct way so you can have peace of mind but in the end he is only there to take your money and do the job not to criticize your set up.

lol why would b16s tend "to burn oil and leak"
anyway... say no more https://honda-tech.com/forums/forced-induction-16/600whp-stock-block-b16-build-2840863/

Sounds to me like a tuner that wants to blame his shoddy work on "bad engines" Any engine can suck it it's not built right or not tuned right. B16's are kick ***, I don't care what anyone says i'm old school. I'm building the hell outta one right now. If you have yours built right, your clearances correct, proper parts, and a great tune then you wont have a lick of trouble.
