Low oil pressure in my boosted H23 NEED HELP!!
Ive been working my project for about 8 months. Motor build-sleeved block 9:1 comp, rods, port polish, titanium valves springs. standard everything for build. Stock cams. running turbonetics 6061 t3 turbo turbonetics wastegate (14lb spring) 3in DP and exhaust. hondata s300. my first tune was late last year sept or so. on 14 lbs hit 318whp. brought car home drove for a few weeks and low oil pressure light started flashing. only at idle, after flashing for a while turned solid at idle and flashing while driving. i have replaced sending unit, dropped the pan to check the sump, cant seem to figure out why i have low oil pressure. idle at 800rmp oil pressure is below 10psi, 2k rpm oil pressure jmps to 50-60psi. Any ideas? im deployed in iraq currently and the car is parked. would like to have an idea on a fix before i get home. please help
could be a bad sending unit....10psi of pressure at idle is not that bad. the oil light should come on only when there is less than 2-3psi of pressure which is what they are calibrated to.
Are you running oil past the aftermarket oil sending unit? What I mean is are you also running an oil line from the same adapter of the sending unit to your turbo? .. if yes, then that would affect your oil pressure reading on your gauge.

Yes my oil feed line is running off a t adapter and the line is after the sending unit. So would that mean my pressure is fine? and that the gauge isnt reading correctly?

But you're fine with your current setup.
^ Yup. Test it out if you want, remove your turbo from your manifold, remove feed oil line, and block off the open port on the adapter with a plug fitting. Start your car and watch the oil pressure, I'm 100 % sure that your pressure will now read higher at start-up and at idle. So 10psi in that sense is fine and won't hurt anything, it's also inaccurate, an if it bothers you enough just get oil pressure from a different location to the gauge.
thats kind of what i was thinking is to hook my oil pressure gauge up somewhere else. is there another good spot to run a gauge of on the h23 that wouldnt involve drilling?
Don't even bother. It's not too important to get an exact oil pressure reading, what matters is that there is oil pressure at idle and climbs throught rpm range. If you have an oil problem down the road, your gauge will alert you. Just know your current baseline, don't worry so much about true oil pressure.
Check your alternator as well. A lot of boosted H set-ups have the downpipe near the alternator which causes it to overheat and go bad. This will cause the oil pressure light to come on. I would also invest in an aftermarket oil pressure gauge as well.
makes sense streetride. because my motor is running fine no engine noise and no lights other then low oil pressure. thanks for the help.
