I can't compare the two, but the Disco Potato is one of my favorite street turbos... I find Mitsus be less reliable.

You're going to need to run a ton of boost on the e316g. Even then, I think you will not be able to reach 350whp.

The EVO 9 turbo is better than the GT28rs if you are willing to run a huge wastegate and a long runner manifold. It is turbine limited.

I would think hes talking about the Evo 3 turbo, which is far more common. Building a manifold for the Evo 9 turbo wouldnt be worth the money.

The 28RS will spool quicker but doesnt have quite the potential for power. The 2871R is definitely better than an Evo 3 turbo, it will spool quicker and make more power.

A Evo9 turbo is max $500. A custom manifold will cost $800. So we are at $1300. A GT28rs is $1100. A non-ebay manifold costs $300-900. Where is the extra money coming from?

Look back in the archives. Evo turbo will spool as fast and have the same fat powerband as the GT28rs, except it can push about 50-75 more whp.

You are comparing $500 for a 30k+ mile turbo and $1100 for a brand new turbo. When you compare them used or brand new, theyre very comparable but I would weight in favor of the Garrett more for durability and its easy to upgrade to another more powerful turbo.

I'll take OEM reliability over Garrett reliability any day of the week. Evo9 turbo is a better bang for the buck. I forgot to add in the $200 you save by not needing an external WG with the Evo9 turbo. There is not a chance I would spend $1200 on a GT28rs with the Evo9 turbo the performer it is for the price.

Also, the second you want more power, typically you need a new DP, manifold, intercooler, intercooler plumbing, ect ect ect. Evo9 turbo offers about 75whp more peak than the GT28rs. I say that's cheaper than anything else available.

Garrett produces far more turbos for OEM applications that Mitsubishi. Most GT28RS also have built in wastegates. A lightly used Garrett could cost less overall, a used downpipe, manifold, etc... would be easy to source.

i have a t3 .42ar/63ar and was told it would max out around 300.

I have 250 @ ~14-15psi. The spool is quick (hard to stay out of it really).

I don't know if this helps you or not.

I made 350whp on a TD06 17c which is the same size wheel as a 16g with a different fin design. Granted the compressor housing is bigger than a td05 16g and exhaust housing is a 10cm2. The Big 16g evo turbo might be able to pull it off but it will be toward its limits. I believe the 17c and the evo 16g are rated at 400 cfm. It took me 23lbs to make the 350 on race gas.

the only reason i am thinking twice about the gt28rs is because it can not be rebuilt and the evo 16g can but i want a turbo that will spool just as fast if not faster than the gt28rs and get me to 350whp

i had the gt28rs in my ls setup and I absolutely loved it. Quick response, had to drive like a grandma to keep it out of boost, and it has enough pep in it to get you the 350whp that your looking for with a properly built engine. Between the two i'd go hands down with the gt28rs.
