Icon6 Thanksgiving emergancy!! EG died need help FAST!!!

OK boys, I have been a guest here for about a year after being referred to you all by a mechanic friend. I have seen alot of very sound advice given out and now I am finally a registered member, on my second Civic, and badly in need of your sound advice. Tuesday night on the way home my baby EG died while going about 65mph, I figured timing belt broke heads screwed anyways so I tried to kick it over and it started!! I got her about 20ft. some @$$hole hit his brakes so I did as well and she died again. I replaced my fuel filter, checked my fuel pump(working fine), checked my thermostat, checked all my s. plugs, going to check my distributor when I'm done posting this. She will start up after about 3-4 turns of the key and will hold a steady idle for around 10min. then just quietly die again(no shaking no sputtering just shuts off). Oh, one last thing I noticed is that my cooling fans(both) are not activating, and neither my upper or lower radiator hoses have any pressure behind them but both hoses get hot like they have fluid moving through them. So as you can see I am completely stumped, I am a courier and this happened Tuesday night, if I cant get her running by Friday morning I'm out of a job. I'm in panic mode guys throw your ideas at me, I'll be watching my post while I'm tearing her apart today, theres alot of knowledge in this community and I know you guys will help, thanks, and HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL YOU HONDA NUTS!!!!!

Hrmm, if you've done all that I'm at a loss. definitely check your distributor out and check/clean all your grounds. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable could chime in. Is your car throwing any codes?

check the codes yourself, jump the plug and count the flashes. There's a thread on how to do it with codes at the top of the page.

Wow, great post on how to check codes, waiting on tow truck to get her to my house, maybe another 30min. then thats the first thing I'm doing, I had no idea I could do that myself. Oh and I replaced the FF first thing yesterday morning.

Check your timing belt. Tensioner could be failing and it jumped a tooth.

did you have any codes to begin with? and it will stay lit when you turn the car over but if you just turn it to the on position it will flash. pull the plugs and see what they look like.

Ignition module going?, i would say main relay but that usually causes it to not start

Don't forget that you can rent a car for a couple days to do your job if your car is still on the fritz. If it will save you your job ...

Does the CEL remain on steady both with and without the service connector jumped?

Sounds like your fuel pump. This was happening to me on a TRE pump that I had in there for about 5k. Do you have a fuel gauge? Do you know if your getting fuel?
You are getting no lights on the cluster at all? If so your ECU might be dead. But im betting on either ECU or Fuel pump or main relay. When you turn the key to On(II) do you hear the fuel pump prime? Does it sound like its dry or make a loud whining noise?

The ECU is the last item to consider.

Check for spark at the plugs. If you have spark, it should be bright white.

If spark is fine, check whether the timing belt skipped some teeth.

Figured it out, i am gonna post pics tonight of this crazy ****, I couldnt belive my eyes when I saw what I saw. My EG was stolen from the previous owners(I am only 2nd owner!!), they told me they replaced the ignition assembly when they got it back. So at 1am I am pissed at this car so I start running all the wiring looking for the problem, I get to the driver side dash and lo and behold the 2nd ignition switch that was spliced in and used to steal the car WAS LEFT WIRED IN AND TUCKED ON TOP OF THE STEERING!!!! Every time I turned the wheel or hit a bump, or whatever it tripped the wiring and shut my car down, eventually it got stuck right between on and off. I am still astonished, flabergasted, amazed, shocked, or whatever other word you can think of. It took me working on that car till 1am and getting beyond pissed to find that, never in a million years would I have thought that was the problem. So thank you all again for your help, oh and yes my ECU was fried, my Ignition control was fried, and my fuel filter was trash so you all did advise me correctly, those were problems, just not the last problem. Thanks again!
