Default Starting Issues

1994 Honda Civic EX
bone stock

Problem: If my car sits for more than a day, it won't start. When I turn the key on, I have full display, but it doesnt crank. After clutching it a few times, and turning it, it will start....sometimes I have to do this process two or three times. Considering it doesnt crank and I have full power, I'm guessing it's the clutch switch.

But here is where I am lost. After it starts, I can turn it off, and let it sit for 1 minute, 4 hours, etc. and it will start....unless I let it sit for more than 24 hours, then I have trouble getting it to crank. If it were the switch, wouldn't it do it all the time, rather than only after prolonged amounts of time?

any help would be appreciated. thanks.

Jump the 2P connector of the clutch switch. If this prevents the start problem, then replace the switch.

Warning: Jumping the clutch switch bypasses a safety device, so make sure the transmission is in neutral when you start the engine.

I know how to jump the connector, and I know the dangers of it (ive done a few auto to manual swaps). Anyway, after I get it started, I have no problems. So I dont know how jumping the connector can be a controlled experiement. I guess I have to do it next time it gives me trouble starting.

I guess I'll try it out. I'll keep you updated. Thanks Ron.

You'll need to leave the connector jumped for a period of time in which the start problem would typically happen a couple of times. If the problem doesn't occur during this time, then you would assume that the clutch switch is bad.

If the switch is fine, then you may want to test the ignition switch.
