my friend ryan just got done rebuilding his b16 and he dident gap his rings. What im wondering is whats going to happen to his motor. He has only put 10 miles on it and was wondering how much damage he has done if any so far. He realy dosent want to rebuild the whole thing again but i know he has to. Whats going to happen to his motor if he dosent rebuild asap.

It should be okay, I didn't have to file any of my rings - they were gapped perfectly when I got them

 

well depending on what rings he bought id say hes ok. i bought oem rings with i rebuilt my b16. and they here gapped perfectly already. which i figured htey would be.

 

Yea mine were NPR rings from Ebay, I guess it depends on what brand you buy

 

i wouldnt say hes good to go, but make sure if he hears anything, or anything outta the norm to get it check asap!

 

Due to variances in pistons, the bores may have to be bored different diameters, so that would effect the gap of the rings. Like .001 larger bore would result in .003 larger gap. I think someone here might have even said that.

 

what kind of rings does he have??
i had oems in my gsr and they were just fine.

 

ya if they where oem rings id say hes fine. you gotta figure as long as everything was fine, ur using ur oem pistons, oem rings should fit just fine. i cant see a jap checking every ring on every motor honda makes everyday!

 

So i just found out he used je pistons for his motor does anyone know if je rings are pre gapped.

 

I put JE rings in my d16 and they were within specs. All I did to the block was hone it. I also rebuilt a d15 only honed it and used npr rings and they were within spec.

1 question did your friend install JE pistons? Reason I ask is the JE rings I got were thicker than OEM rings to match the JE forged pistons I ordered. I'm not sure if JE makes OEM sized rings of not.
