Default messed up rings???

i think i need new rings soon, motor only has 3k on it and it burns oil like crazy! i dont think the rings seated correctly because i was running real rich from the start. how much does it cost around to replace the rings and get the cylinder walls done again???

Who built your motor for you before? I would go back to them and see whats up. Is the motor fully built?

you will be lucky if those rings didn't tear up he cylider walls. You could be looking at boring, maybe even resleaving, oversize pistons and new rings. Your oil control ring might of been installed fucked up that's what messed up your engine.

It will cost you a pretty penny if simple honning won't fix it.

Did you rebuild it or someone else did?

First make sure it's rings.

do a compression test. If it's low, drop few drops of oil in there and see if numbers go back to normal. If they do then it's your rings. If they don't it could be headgasket or bad valve.
You could also take of the hose that goes from the valve cover to intake. Run the car if you see oil coming out of there in some amount, it means you are getting massive blow by (prolly bad rings).

Why don't you take it back to the place that rebuild the engine.

okay i just checked my compression today and got these numbers:
170, 150, 150, 170

sound good? i was a lil low on oil, it was barely on the dip stick, and my battery is about to die!!! if that affects anything.

yeah looks like your rings are fucked. What motor is it, compression numbers are low all across the board but cylinders #2, #3 are totaly messed up. It should be like between 190-210 (depending on the motor).

Did you do the oil trick?

Either way something is defently wrong, bad rings, bad rebuild, bad headgasket, warped something, sticking valve. Not good.

i would change the valve seats also ... those are well know to give u problems . rings for my lx ran me about 50 if i'm not mistaken ... if u plan on doing yourself .. it's rather simple just make sure u have the trusty helms with you

check the compression of each cylender. then add a drop of oil to each cylender if the compression goes up, then u have a bad ring. make sure when u do this that the engine is warm, remove the fuel pump fuse, then crankit.

that's terrible compression.

my LS has 180, 181, 180, 181

And as for driving it, you can drive it till it blows. The more you drive it the more wear your going to put on it and the more expensive it will be later.
