Default My 95 Civic Project Car Nees A Turbo Kit

My 95 Civic Project Car

Im looking for help to find an affordable name brand d series turbo kit for my d15b engine. Ive searched on this forum and on google, but all I can find are ebay kits which ive heard are not recommended. Can someone please help me find a recommended turbo kit for my engine. Any help would be appreciated... thanks... Heres a look at my project car... I would like to swap the engine out for a b18 later on once I can get enough money together, i hope getting a turbo for my b15 will be enough to satisfy me until I can get a swap done...

D15B Engine & Bumbper and grill

Stock JDM D15B /w Short Ram

Profile shot /w winter tires and primer two tone paint

let me know what you guys think, im a bit of a noob, but any advice or recomendations would really be appreciated... Currently at the time of this post, the car is in the shop getting all the panels realigned, rear 1/4 rust cut out and replaced, dents being pulled out, in prep for paint. Im going to be posting pictures of the work on it in the next few days

Greddy makes a good, complete turbo kit for the D-series. Or if you want to go cheap piece one together yourself

why not save up money now for a b18c swap or a b16a and turbo that engine, right now if you buy your turbo your gonna waste money and time from your "goal", but if your a freak of nature and wanna turbo your car right away greddy is a very good turbo brand I find but expensive, piecing one together would be cheaper but don't go too cheap, dont wanna burn your engine.

search forums about what exactly you need for a turbo kit, like header, waste gate, intercooler, piping and cuplers, turbo, injectors, you have a 95 civic so you have OBD1 which is good dont need to convert it to OBD1, you also need alot more parts, I've heard 9psi of boost or so is harmless to your stock internal engine, but don't forget all this with a GOOD TUNE is what will make your car or brake your car, even tho you have a good turbo kit. you can try turbod16.com, the link explains itself....

Theres nothing wrong with boosting a d-series!! Later on down the road he could throw some forged rods/pistons in there and be pushing 300whp, which is plenty for a FWD car on the street. It's gonna be hard getting it all done though for $500-$1000. Keep in mind most turbo kits don't include, injectors, fuel pump, fuel management, and on top of that you gotta get it tuned. That's a tough budged to work on even on a d-series.

Didnt know the parts didnt all have to be a certain spec, I figured it had to be all the same dimensions or something. My plan is to buy a b18 and then sell this d15b with turbo to raise money for the b18 turbo kit. Whats the cheapest I can put the pieces together myself? And where would I buy the pieces? ebay? is there any good sites with parts for hondas? Sorry for all the newb questions, but you guys are pretty much my only source of info...

GReddy and Edelbrock have decent kits. Don't forget injectors and a tune.

You really should just piece together a kit.

You say you don't know enough to piece together a kit... well then the truth is, you shouldn't be installing a turbo in your Civic.

You need to do the research first. Even if someone else is installing it, you still need to know how it works and everything so that you can diagnose a problem and so that you know how to read the gauges and know what they mean.

P.S. If you turbo the D15B, then there's no point in getting a B18 swap... you should be happy enough with the 200-250WHP you can get out of the D15B. If you're not happy with that... well then you should really do more suspension work anyway before you go higher than that.

I know, im learning, slowly. Im getting most of the work done proffesionally at local shops etc. I may not know how to piece one together, but that doesnt mean I shouldnt install one, at least professionally. I just got into tuning, and thats why ive gotten signed up here on the forum, to reasearch and learn from you guys who are all probably more experienced than I am. I want to learn, though its been hard to find someone to help teach me... You guys are probably gonna be answering my newb questions for quite a while... though thanks for being polite and not flamming me lol... Im gonna try and find a list of parts I need for a turbo and source the parts if I can, then have them installed by a mechanic... Is there a list online somewhere or can you guys tell me what I would need for a d series turbo, or are all the parts I need the same as any other kit?

here's some good info on piecing together a kit (and installation if you decide to tackle it yourself... it's worth doing yourself to save the money... it's not hard):
http://hondacivicforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=42034
http://hondacivicforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=19900
http://hondacivicforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11654

However, if you have the money, what I would do is just buy the GReddy kit and then the parts it doesn't come with: a blow-off valve, a/f ratio gauge with wideband o2 sensor, boost gauge, oil pressure gauge (optional), turbo timer, intercooler, extra charge piping for the intercooler, 440cc fuel injectors, vacuum manifold (to prevent excessive T's on vacuum lines), boost controller (I wouldn't mess with this after the tune), ARP head studs, and a tune. You can get it tuned to 225WHP or so as long as it's a good tune.

Sell the e-manage that the GReddy kit comes with, it sucks. Get your ECU socketed and chipped instead and dyno tuned on Crome or even Hondata by a professional tuner.

Then afterwards, run on 91+ octane fuel, full synthetic oil, and change the oil about twice as often as you normally would. Always allow the engine to cool down after driving (that's what the turbo timer is for). Ask your tuner about how to read the gauges and such and what to watch for.

I found a couple kits that were cheap enough that I could afford one... Let me know if these kits would be alright. I dont want to find out after I needed more pieces to make the kit work or something... Heres some links I found, if you guys will take a look at em that would be great...

NO.

Those are garbage. If it's not a name brand kit, it's trash. Come on, this is a turbo, what were you expecting price wise?

Well thats partly what I'm asking, ive been told the ebay turbo kits are crap, and ive also heard theyre just fine. Which is it? Does name brand really make a difference, im not street racing my car so it shouldnt wear out quickly or anything. Im looking to do this on a budget of $500-$1000 give or take... I just want a fairly reliable kit, that will give me extra horse power, affordably.

IMO, if you're planning on swapping a b18 in there I would just wait and save the money and piece together a kit that would be best suited for a B series. OR piece together a decent kit for your D15b and when you put a b18 in just get another manifold to fit the b series and then just bolt the same kit back up... just my .02
BTW, good lookin car for a project, definitely keep us updated on progress!

check out a site called homemadeturbo.com, you'll learn what you need to know

the ebay kits are crap. the turbo oil seals go bad quickly, and the manifolds often crack and/or don't fit.

if you want reliability, generic ebay kits are not what you want.

I agree. To the OP when you say B18..which one are you referring to? B18B1/A1 which is the LS, B18C1(GSR)or the B18C5(ITR)??

Either way, I swapped in an LS in my EG last year in place of the Perfectly running D16Z6. If I had it to do over again I would have used the money I spent on the LS Engine/Tranny/Axles,etc,etc and Boosted my D.
