so i have a gsr motor im pretty sure its obd2... is there a way i can find out for sure? i know the ecu is a p72. im completely retarded when it comes to this stuff. can anyone help me?

 

what is that stamp on the block? p72 is an OBD2 ecu

 

the one under the engine code is 2312316 then theres another on the tranny its s80-2027(cant read this number maybe 5?) 38

 

nooo look on the left side of the block next to where the tranny and block meet. there should be a stamp there that says B18C1, B18C, B18C5, or B17. the B17 is obd1 all the others are obd2

 

this guy is a moron there were obd1 gsr b18c1's obd what only corresponds to the stuff bolted onto the motor like intake manifold dizzy and injectors otherwise you can make any motor any obd u want

 

yeah its a gsr motor b18c1. so it can be either obd 1 or 2? how do i find out... i know the dizzy has two plugs coming out of it. one with to wire another with 7.

 

no moron here just going off what most case scenarios will be. this guy cant even find the block stamp so im trying to simplify as much as possible.

haha well come on man... i just need help im not trying to start ****. the only thing on the dizzy is td-68u under that 5417

yea. its actually a obd1 b16 dizzy originally. the td-68u and td-44u are interchangable apps.

 

so what do you think would be the best thing to do as far wiring harness for my swap? im putting the gsr motor into a 98 civic dx

 

since everything seems to be obd1 i would get a p28 or p30 and have it chipped and tuned for your motor. sell the p72 for the money to get the new ecu.... or keep it for later. your choice

Most people including myself know what OBD the engine is BEFORE they buy it so they can already know what course of action they are going to take with the wiring. Damn bro.

 

Just because the dizzy is an obd1 doesn't mean its an obd1 motor. The dizzy is not the best way to determine the year. Someone may have used an obd1 dizzy before so they wouldn't have to convert the plug. GSR's have the year stamped on the head and if the VIN is still intact you can figure out the year and body style the motor came from.

Looking at the example VIN you can tell that the Integra is a 1998 GS 4dr manual.

 

yeah but if the motor is obd1 it does not have vin while obd2 does? just look for a vin and if u cant find one its obd1 or jdm.
