what is it going in..then make your decesion on that
if its going in a 92-95 civic..obd1
96-00 obd2

alot of people like obd1, less sensors to worry about
you can do obd1into an obd2 car...

as far as the difference...just more sensors

im sure someone else on here can give you a more indepth answer

if you're buying one thats obd1 you'll have less headache.
plus it should come with a obd1 ecu, which you can chip.

The engines and tranny's are pretty much the same and make the same power. Really, the only difference is the ecu, and yes, obd1 would be the one of choice. Although an obdII engine is newer and probably has less clicks.

you should get an obd1 motor with an obd1 ecu for your car.. 92-95=obd1 96-00 =obd2.. make sure whatever motor u get should be the same year as ur car or newer. in this case a gsr would be 94-97 I believe, therefore you can pass smog. and if you go with hmotors they only sell japanese engines. which means u cant pass smog without some modifications in the future. if I were you look for a usdm b18c1 motor instead of a b18c gsr.. good luck.

Like everyone else is saying depends on the car you are droping the motor into. I put an obd1 into my 95 coupe. Try looking into jdm unlimited for the motor. Those guys have helped me out a lot. Great deals.

so dropping an obd-2 gsr into my 95 civic wouldnt allow for more parts or anything like that? the powerband is the same on both the obd-1 and obd-2? my friend said id end up with more horsepower in the obd-2 than i would the obd-1 if i modded them the exact same way...is this true? thanks for the patience!

Sources have told me that in Japan, there is no such thing as OBD2 motors. My motor has a FITV and I got an "OBD2" JDM GSR.... They just want you to pay more.

The ecu is no big deal, just do a obdI conversion on the newer engine, there no downside to using the newer set up.

An obdI and OBDII gsr engine have the same amount of sensors with the exception of an extra one extra or sensor.

The exact differences are the distributor for obdI has 2 small plugs and an internal crank angle sensor, the obdII version has 1 larger plug coming out of it with the exact same wires coming out of it, color for color less one wire, which is because the crank angle sensor is located on the other side of engine right by the crank.

The injectors have the same values, but a very slightly different plug style.

Does the difference in crank angle sensor location mean that the obd1 and obd2 crankshafts are different? Or are they swappable between obd1 and obd2?

OBD1 would be the way to go if you ask me. OBD2 GS-R engines are different in the following ways:
- different distributor plugs
- vtec solenoid does not have a pressure switch and the corresponding ECU wont look for it
- OBD2 engines have a CKF sensor

I'm sure there are other minor differences but thats all i could think of.
