rod bearing colors??
i need to replace new rod bearings on an ls, but i am not sure which bearings to use. To my understanding the bearings are color coded on the edge of each bearing. The color code on the bearings that i'm replacing are faded so i am not sure which ones to get. I know there are numbers stamped to the crankshaft and the rods to help determine the correct color. The number 2 is stamped on a pair of rods and the number 3 is stamped on the other pair. On the left side of each cranshaft journal there is a letter B. On the right side of the cranshaft rod journals are the numbers 2,2,4,3. Does any1 know how i can use this two get the right color coded bearings? One more thing....i took the rods to the machine shop to be modifed a bit, and the machinist took the tags off that labeled each rod to its corresponding cylinder. Is there a way to measure something on the crank or rod bore to determine what cylinder it came from??? HELP!!!
there will be 5 letters engraved in the bottom of your block close to the rear main seal. these are the main bearing sizes (part 1)
for example:
BBBAB
on the crank, there will be 5 NUMBERS, one for each main journal. these are also for the braing sizes (part 2)
take the letter for journal #5 (rear main one) and match it up to the first letter on the block. go from there
rods:
the rods will have number on them (typically 2's or 3's). match these up with the LETTERS on the crank shaft. match up your rods. dont worry where they WERE, but just once you match them up where theyre GOING, dont mix them up.
anymore questions, give us a call at our shop. see sig for #

Anyways.....the parts listed on that link you posted helped me distinguish the correct part numbers. I called the dealer and they indead messed up my order. Thanks again for the post. It saved me time that could have been wasted!
I have a concern as to what the machine shop actualy did to the rods?If any machining was done to the big end of the rod the the numbering system is not going to be correct.Make shure of this,if nothing was do,the info sent to you is correct.
