rod bearing sizing question
I've got one rod bearing that is measuring about .010mm too tight. What is the size difference between each color bearing? It is the number 3 rod that is too tight, and .010mm would put it in spec with the others. I believe number 3 should be a bit looser, so I'd like to get a bearing that is about .015mm smaller.

Re: rod bearing sizing question (blueciv69)
They are honda bearings on Crower rods (fully built sleeved block). I'm not at home so I'm not sure what color it is right now. I believe it is the color that corresponds to a no.3 rod with a no.2 crank. Pretty sure it was brown, maybe red.

-k- rod bearings are usually all the same color.. But what do I know I only rebuild 8 or 10 motors a month. I could be wrong though. What is specified tolerances for the clearance +/- what and what torque. Also did you get your crank micropolish or ground? This is always a biggy.

There are about 8 different color (sized) bearings. The one you use depends on what the crank and rods are sized for. I already know that my number 3 rod bearing is too tight, I just need to know if I should go one size smaller or two sizes.

1 size smaller! the are .01 mm difference between each bearing...plasti guage it to find out, as that is the only way to find out FOR SURE!
you are! sheez don't tell people that, you'll have a buch of people talking about how they spun a bearing cuz they used all one color...the crank has a Letter on it that corresponds w/ the number on the rod, crowers are usually rated as a #2..then you take the letter on the crank and it corresponds w/ a chart ..you can call the dealer and tell them you need a rod bearing and tell them the letter on the crank and the number on the rod...they'll tell you the color..I have the chart @ home but I'm at work now..but you still need to PLASTIGUAGE IT!
