Default Clutch Info.

This will be my 2nd clutch in a years time. I did not excersise the "break-in" period last time and it obviously has cost me more money. I need to get it right this time. My questions are as follows.

1. How do you break-in a clutch?
2. Do I need to replace the flywheel again? I already installed a light-weight flywheel when I put the last clutch in this past February.
3. After the clutch break-in period is over. Is there a certain way you have to accelerate with an 8lb. flywheel installed? I've heard different things.

Thanks in advance.

I would suggest breaking in your clutch by doing some normal stop and go driving for a few hundred miles. I would not suggest anything in the higher RPM range during this time frame. The friction material needs to go through a heat cycle, similar to bedding brake pads for best service life. As far as the flywheel goes, you might want to see if you can get it turned to knock off any high spots or deglaze the surface. What type of flywheel is it? I have an 8lb. Fidanza in my Prelude, which has a replacable friction ring. This allows you to just replace the ring, rather than the whole flywheel. I really don't think there is any need to alter your driving style after your clutch is broken in.

I have an 8lb. Competition Clutch flywheel. I ask about altering driving style only because I heard once you have a light weight flywheel installed you can't powershift or basically have any fun.

Inspect the flywheel for wear. Most lightweight flywheels come with replaceable friction surfaces.

As far breaking in the clutch, just drive normally. Ie. don't be abusive. Don't launch, slip it excessively, shift at high rpm.

What brand clutch was the last one?
