Default New Flywheel with First Clutch Job?

Little over 40K on an AP1 and replacing the clutch with an OEM one. I'm wondering if anything needs to be done to the flywheel or if I can just replace it in another 40K or however long this clutch lasts.

The FW should be fine, but check it for scoring or other damage. If necessary, just have it resurfaced.

I don't know of anyone who's had to replace a flywheel due to normal wear and tear, but I don't know anyone with real crazy HP. Your flywheel should last a real long time. 9 out of 10 people probably just slap on a new clutch without resurfacing it without any problems. Obviously if you wanted to put on an aftermarket lightweight flywheel clutch change is the best time.

I ALWAYS resurface a flywheel when you install a new clutch.

Cost about 30 bucks and can usually be done the same day, if not pick it up the next day.

Do it right or do it twice.

^-- or better yet toss in the flywheel with brake rotors or other items and get a nice bundle deal. most machinists own their equipment and welcome return customers!

So most machine shops can do this no problem? You don't have to take it somewhere special?

It sounds good in theory. I'm not sure about where you are but I brought my flywheel to get resurfaced at a machine shop that did mostly rotors and they totally messed it up somehow. I brought it to a clutch shop to get it machined right.

i say if you need to resurface it you might as well just get a new one cuz i got mine resurfaced and idk if they might have cut to much or what but my clutch started slipping soon after cuz there wasnt much flywheel surface left but i recommend just buy a new one if you have to resurface it even if it is oem

nah you can resurface a couple times. If you bring it to a clutch shop, they will let you know when you need a new one. Much more cost efficient to recut it. only 25 bucks when i did it

the factory service manual does not recommend resurfacing the flywheel, if your going to separate the engine/trans id suggest replacing everything at one time, it is about an 5-8h project...

I've resurfaced the flywheel for every clutch swap I've ever done.

A few clutches had special instructions on what they wanted.

The s2k has had it's resurfaced as well.
